Whoo Hooo get your napkins ready for twirlin’…it’s Breakfast with Mickey Time!
We woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to head out for our first park day. We always go to MK first. This time I thought it would be fun to head to Chef Mickeys for an early breakfast as a way to jump into the fun. I was right! It was great!
We headed over to MK and then caught the Monorail to the Contemporary. We had the bus to ourselves. The driver chatted with us about the new DVC opening at the Contemporary…which I now find funny because Disney made the big announcement a few days after we got home. This bus driver also happened to be an amateur computer builder and gave us a LOT of unsolicited computer advice. The nice part was that he apparently makes computers of spare parts for the immigrant workers at Disney. Apparently Disney employees have no “boss” to go to if they need a day off. Everything is computerized so employees NEED computer access. So there you go…your random Disney fact of the day.
DD just ignored all the computer talk and had herself a good time
Even puppy had his own seat
Anyway, we were onto CR. DD wanted to stop and find Hidden Mickeys and our rush to breakfast was not appreciated by her (I’m neurotic about checking in 15 minutes early for ADRs). As a result, she refused to take the family photo in front of the plate and had a little pout when DH and I informed her that “fine, we’ll take the pic without you” She ended up joining in but the picture featured a smiling husband and wife and a PO’d 4 year old. While we were taking our picture our beeper went off so we got seated early. I was so excited that we might actually make rope drop at MK! We’ve never made a SINGLE rope drop. Either we are in the park already for breakfast or we are still at the hotel. Never at the front of the park. I’ve seen the opening on YouTube but seriously, after all these Disney trips, you think I would have seen it live once!
We sat down and DD was still in a bit of a grump. She decided that in ALL of the buffet, there was NOTHING that she liked. Um, seriously???? I almost had my own meltdown and then I decided, you know what…this is NOT worth the argument. So I promptly announced: Eat whatever you like. Even DH did a double take. Surely this couldn’t be his wife saying this. I sounded so laid back, so easy going, so much like him!

So off DH and DD went to get junk food for breakfast. This is what she returned with:
That’s right. Brownies, rice krispie treats, and PB&J pizza. Breakfast of champs right there! Luckily the glass of OJ gave a BIT of nutrition!
Well with the influx of sugar, DD was out of her grump and ready to party! Soon the characters started showing up
HOLY close up of Mickey!
Minnie liked the dress!
The characters actually didn’t start showing up at our table until about 20-25 minutes after we arrived. Luckily they all came quickly one after another. The same can’t be said for our waitress. Now in this trip report you will see that we had some good waitstaff and some “less-than-up-to-Disney-standard” waitstaff. I should warn you now that I have a particular love/hate relationship with buffet waitstaff. My primary issue is…why do we have to tip these people 20%??? Even 18% seems a lot. I should note that I always just suck it up and give them their 20% but I really don’t agree with it at all. They bring drinks. Then they bring your check. That’s about it. Since we aren’t a family who returns to a buffet over and over, they don’t even have plates to clean up.
Now onto this particular waitress. I truly had hopes from her when we arrived. She appeared to be very cheerful for such an early hour. My hopes were quickly dashed when it took me several attempts to clarify that I wanted HOT tea and that my DH wanted ICED tea.

There was not a language barrier, I think she honestly couldn’t believe that anyone would want HOT tea in Florida heat. Ok lady, I’m Irish, I can not start or end my day without tea! So after that issue, I was a little concerned. At 8:25am, we were all done eating! YES, we are going to make it to rope drop! We gathered up all our stuff and were ready to run. That’s when our waitress disappeared. LITERALLY. We have no clue where she went. I eventually let DH take DD to look for more hidden mickeys. I sat at the table until 8:45am when she finally came back with my check. I paid (including her 20% tip

) and ran. We did not wait for the monorail, we ran down the path to MK…
Did we make it to rope drop???? To Be Continued!
