I will be going with my sister, her DBF, and our DC (cousin). Diana's (my DSis) DBF, Tyrae, is a 6'3 football player (hoping to get into the NFL) who eats SO much! We (my family) had the DDP in 2006 and we felt stuffed, but this man EATS!:rotfl:I just don't want him to have to buy extra food.

I was thinking of the DDP Deluxe but I think that would be WAY too much food for the rest of us!

Please help!

My kids and I love the DxDDP. You can eat 3 meals a day or you can eat a breakfast and then do a 2 meal signature dinner. As far as the snacks go we each would get a drink and a ice cream or frozen lemonade sometime during our park time. If your going during free dining I would definitely upgrade because of the minimal cost involved per person.

Good Luck with your choice,
Belinda

Sadly we won't be going during Free Dining:sad2:. We'll be going January 2010.

We've used the DP and liked it well enough, but most people say there is too much food when in reality, I thought it was a perfect amount especially now that they have removed the appetizer.

We are trying the deluxe this year and I would recommend it. I don't think its too much food because if you plan it right and do 2 meals a day (1 regular TS and 1 signature meal), you should be fine and since you get appetizers too, it should be plenty of food for the big eaters to be satisfied.

I'll have to compare the two, DDP & DxDDP. It's really undecided until July/August of next year when they release the 2010 packages because there have been rumors that Disney was changing their DDP again. I really liked the DDP when we went in 2006 but now the appetizers & tip are not included.:sad2:

6'3" is not that big -- it's actually pretty smallish for the NFL.

Not to worry, though. If he doesn't get enough to eat, Disney will be happy to sell him more food. They'll sell him as much food as he has the money (or credit) to buy.

He's big to me (5'4) but from what I understand, safetys aren't huge....idk.

I'm sure he's good enough to play, and good luck to him. Hopefully, in 2010, he'll be paying for the whole thing with his signing bonus.

But for planning purposes now...make your own plans and he'll fit in just fine. If he doesn't, that will tell you (and DSis) something.

It wouldn't be a worry at the buffet restaurants. It seems to me it would be cheaper to just buy an appetizer or something extra for him than to upgrade everyone to the deluxe plan. Especially since you think the basic plan will be enough food for the rest of you.

Yeah, I know what you mean. They're going on 1.5 years. I really think he's the "one" for her:goodvibes but you never now how things plan out. And if he does get signed, that'd be sweet.:cool1:

I agree with PP about just having him buy an appetiser in non-buffet restaurants to fill up, but we found most of the serving sizes everywhere were large. Other than that, if you choose a lot of buffets & family style for dinner, which is not hard to do at all, I'd guess 1/2 of the Disney restaurants are buffets including some specialty ones like Boma. The family style bring out platters of food to the table & you can always ask for more of any of the dishes.

And then, if he makes the right choices at counter service, he'll get a ton of food. For example, at Flame Tree BBQ in AK, you can get a counter service lunch on the regular DDP that consists of a BBQ ribs (large serving), corn bread, baked beans, soft drink and a dessert (we chose min maid frozen lemonade for our desserts-it's like a 12 oz frozen drink...almost like a hard frozen sorbet) If we'd paid out of pocket, that meal would have been like $15.00...but it was a DDP counter service meal! If he "shops", he will be able to get that much food at about every park & resort food place.

We rarely could finish any meal, and we're not small people. And didn't need too many snacks between meals, either...full, full, full. We used most of our snack credits to buy breakfast pastry items (stayed at a resort with a coffee maker in the room.)

Thanks! I didn't think about the buffet style meals. Yeah, I'm definitely going to do my research of counter service meals!

Also, I would think if he doesn't mind sharing, you and others will have leftovers he could eat. We have been stuffed with leftovers both times we've used DDP and we are pretty big eaters.

To maximise your meal $$ using counter service credits, look for combos on the menues. Like the Flame Tree BBQ meal I mentioned was a combo. We found that counter service combo meals on the DDP provided the most food.

Way to much food for us...

I say stick to the basic ddp, because I would doubt that if he was still hungry he would eat an additional $30 per day....plus everyone else on the reservation would have to pay that too.

We did the plan in Jan. & it was still too much food for us...we left with a couple of counter services not used and went to the candy store to redeem snacks not used. (and we split alot of meals):headache:

Why respond to an inquiry if you have to make a comment like that. The op said she wanted to avoid having him have to buy extra food, OBVIOUSLY he can buy more food if he needs to. There's just no reason to comment on whether or not you think he's big enough to play for the NFL.

Anyway, to the question.....
I don't see 2 meals a day and 1 snack a day as tons of food if you're someone who eats a LOT. But..........everyone seems to think portion sizes are big. Maybe each one of you can split your meals with him and he can order his own. :) I'm just kidding. I would bet with the regular ddp that he will need to buy a little bit of extra food.

We have used the DDP on two separate trips now and although none of us are tyring out for the NFL, we all LOVE food and at home eat 3 meals a day, plus snacks. On both trips, we found the DDP to be more than enough food. We had extra snack credits at the end of both trips too (used them on snacks we could bring home). IMO, the deluxe plan would be too much food.

I'm doing the deluxe DDP, but I'm using a lot of my credits on signature meals and character dining, so most days I'm only eating one or two meals. I also really don't eat a lot of CS, so the regular DDP really doesn't make sense for me. There's a lot of extra snack credits, and I wouldn't be able to imagine how I'd be able to use them all, but I can use them for bottled water, which I usually drink a few bottles of a day.

DDP fills you up! We went for the disney dining plan deluxe, I have to suggest that you make an early reservation on the restaurants that you really really want to go, we missed out on Chef Mickey :( it was full even if we tried to make early reservation. Other restaurants like Boma (Yummy desserts!), O'hana (HOT way of cooking foods, Hawaiian style 'Cuz!), Hollywwod & Vine (for Fantasmic package, good good food too!), 1900 Park Fare (an elegant breakfast feast), and Chip & Dale Garden Grill ( Simply because I cannot get enough of Chip & Dale).

Better loosen up your belt and make room for lots and lots of yummy foods!

The buffets might be the best way to go if you want to keep him full without paying anything extra, because although it is a lot of food for some of us, none of us are NFL candidates.

I am over full on the plan, and that is with leaving food on the plate, and sharing with a 2yo, but I had weight loss surgery, so that doesn't count.

My 13 yo can not finish his meal, at home he orders kids meals still, at disney he is an "adult" so he gets a bit to much food. He is 5'7 and 130 lbs.

My 15 yo is a serious runner, he is full but not uncomfortable after finishing a meal. He wants a snack within 2 hours. also 5'7 and 130 lbs.

My husband is a casual runner, and usually finishes his meal, leaving behind some dessert, but he is not big on sweets. 5'10, 170 lbs.

It is easy to say that for our family it is almost "too much" food (there is no such thing as too much food really ;) )

But again, not NFL players. I think it is a unique situation you are planing for. He really may end up paying for some extra food, especially if it is training season and he is needing 6000+ calories a day. I watched some Buffalo Bills players clear out a KFC buffet in less than 5 minutes during training camp. That was funny!!! And it was only 10 players, and a pretty good size buffet.
