Does the day of check-in affect how early your room will be ready?

Just reading a post on another thread of how checking in on a Friday gives you a better chance that your room will be ready earlier. I'm now at SSR - we arrived on a Sunday, and our room wasn't ready until close to 4 PM.

Are Sundays just busy days for check ins, and thus, it takes longer to get your room?

Could be. Many people like to maximize their points by staying Sun-Thurs., staying away from the higher weekend points.

While logically the Sunday vs Friday room availability theory might seem to hold true, our last 2 check-ins completely defy the concept:

BCV stay last Feb, checked in Friday, approximately 7am, room ready 4pm

BWV stay March '07, checked in Sunday, 10am, room ready immediately!

Guess DVC and logic just don't mix!!:rotfl:

Same here. It doesn't seem to matter what day you check in. I don't think that we have ever had a room ready before 4:00 PM. :sad2:

Time of year, requests could have something to do with it too. We've received a dedicated 2 bedroom at VWL at 9AM, in October on a Sunday morning, it must have been empty the night before, and a fine room. In September I got a studio at AKV at noon on a Monday, and by 1 PM on a Thursday at BCV. Both of these studios were dedicated, in fine shape and I was pleased.

I guess that October isn't particularlly crowded at VWL, and September isn't busy until F&W kicks in.

Actually, logically, your scenarios make sense. More important than the day you check in is what the day before that was. Since many DVCers stay Sun-Thu nights it stands to reason that there will be many check-outs on Fridays. This means that there will be more rooms to turn over for the Friday arrivals. Those not being turned over for the Friday arrivals are often still occupied by guests staying through Sat. or Sun. morning, so I would think you'd be less likely to get your room early on a Friday.

Also, if it is a high season and the resort was full on the night before your check in you will be much morel likely to have to wait for your room.

In our experience we've had great luck getting our room early on a Sunday morning (and we've also had to wait sometimes). We never check in on Friday so I don't have any personal experience with that, but I wouldn't be surprised to have to wait for a room with a Fri. check in.

We have checked in at BCV and BWV on the past, at least 5 trips, and haven't gotten in our room before 4:00 on any of those trips. And the check-ins were all different days of the week. As a matter of fact, on one occasion, we didn't get into our room till closer to 5:00. We we're beginning to think that maybe they didn't want any new check-ins in their room before 4:00.

In our experience, it's not so much the day of the week as it is the resort.

VWL = In 3 trips we've never gotten into the room before 3:30 and sometimes as late as 5:00

BWV = we've gotten into the room twice before 11:00 a.m. and once at 1:30 p.m.

OKW = two trips, both times we got into the room after 3:30 though with "room ready" we probably could have pressed for a room earlier.

BCV = one trip, room was ready by 11:00 a.m.

There's certainly a lot of variation. At BWV, we've sometimes been asked if we enjoy the area we were in the previous time. We nearly always book SV, but we do tend to get the long walks and that's fine. Traditionaly for us, BWV are most likely not to be ready until closer to 4.

I think an earlier in the day check-in may make a difference. We never seem to get in early at BWV, in fact sometimes it has been well after 4:00 PM. But I think the fact that we fly in and never get to the resort before 2:00 PM means that rooms ready early have already been given out to others who checked in earlier than 2:00 PM. Recently we moved over to BWV from SSR on a Friday, so I went to BW at 7:00 AM to check in, hoping to have a better choice of rooms. I felt that there would be quite a few people checking out to avoid the weekend points. I got exactly the location I wanted and the room was ready early (don't know exactly when, but I called at 1:00 and it was ready). I am not a fan of split stays but I think that one of the perks of moving is the ability to check in early.

This is really interesting...

At VWL we got our room at 8:00am.

BWV = we've gotten into the room twice before 11:00 a.m. and once at 1:30 p.m.
At BWV (3 or 4 stays) we have never received our room before 4:00.

OKW = two trips, both times we got into the room after 3:30 though with "room ready" we probably could have pressed for a room earlier.
The only time (out of many, many trips) we had to wait until 4:00 was when we had a GV. Most other times we've gotten something when we arrive (early-to-mid morning) or very shortly thereafter. We've done "room ready" a couple of times, but usually there is already a unit assigned to our reservation

BCV = one trip, room was ready by 11:00 a.m.
One trip also...room was not ready until 3:00pm.

Just goes to show that it really is completely random!

Oct 9th(Thurs)....checked into BWV @10:30...Rm ready at 12:30. It was a great room also. Dedicated studio overlooking the BW and it was a pool view room.

Oct 12th(Sun)...checked into WLV @10:30....Rm ready again at 12:30. Another great room with a view of the lake through the trees.

Latest I ever got a room was 3:30 at the BCV...last Aug on a Sun morning, and I checked in at 7am.

The time our room is ready seems to vary inversely with how badly we need our room available. If someone isn't feeling well or we've driven overnight and could use a nap badly or we have dinner plans that require a change of clothes and freshening up no later than 5- we're lucky to have a room by 5!

If we show up refreshed, with everyone in a good mood and good health, intending to just grab some key cards and head to a park the room is much more likely to be available upon check in, regardless of time or day, though we generally do check in on a Sunday we've also done other days- Friday and Saturday included.

It depends on the phase of the moon, and whether Mars is retrograde.

(;))

I think you may be onto the real answer there. I think the phase of Venus and maybe even Mercury may very well come into play too but I haven't quite got it all laid out yet. :rotfl2:

The day of the week is not important as much as the resort, the view, the season, room size and length of stay.

For example, the AKV concierge rooms are booked 100% of the time. The rooms are never just sitting vacant, waiting for someone to check-in. So the rooms will be ready once mousekeeping is done cleaning them.

We stay at SSR most of the time. We have had our room ready as early as 9am before. Also, the latest we have checked in at SSR was 2pm, on early arrival to the resort.

This is highly unscientific but Fridays (for pickups) and Sundays (for deliveries) are our busiest days at the DVC resorts. We assume this is the result of point-savvy DVC Members. Saturday is our busiest day for non-DVC resorts. We hear that cruise guests have gotten rooms at 8:00 am more often at Old Key West than other resorts.
