Does the camera really add ten pounds?

In all seriousness, I look at women like Kelly Ripa and think if the camera really adds 10lbs she must be a skeleton IRL. I think it probably all depends on things like lighting and angles and wardrobe.

My DH and a friend of his actually did see her at WDW, they said she looked like an Ethiopian person that was starving. He said as thin as she looks on TV take away about 10 to 15 pounds, they didn't even hardly recognize her. They followed her around to be sure and yep it was. It was during Christmas and she was down there to do her annual filming with Regis.

I'd love to know Kelly's height and weight. She looks unattractively thin on tv, I cannot imagine her being skinnier IRL. She's a very pretty woman, but I always that she was prettier on that soap she was on...she looked a normal weight then.

Actually the camera does add bulk because we see things with our eyes in 3D and a camera does not, so images tend to flatten out visually, there's no depth. I don't know if it's really 10 or 15 or 5 pounds.

And yes, actors who just maybe seem thin on-screen?...are scarily-thin in real life.

agnes!

I was watching a rerun of "Bones" the other day and noticed that Emily Deshanel looked a little heavier.

Going off topic here:
I just want to say that I think she's hot! She has the most beautiful face. She's a little too skinny but otherwise...wow!

Ok I'm done gushing now.

Thank you.

Thanks everyone. It is hard for me to get perspective on my own shape sometimes and I was curious about celebs.

DMass I think Emily Deshanel has a slightly unusual look -I think she is very attractive.

I agree, she is TOO skinny. I'm sure part of that is her body type but geesh.

I think that is really the issue, the angles. I never really noticed it before the My Space and Facebook era. You see people take either these way over head shots or lean way into the camera to change the perspective and you know they are hiding a world of hurt.

I call it My Space voodoo though I guess it should be Facebook Voodoo now.

What's funny to me is that when you do that camera angle on me, it makes me look awful! My nose is not a big or wide nose, but take a pic straight on and it looks very broad. All of my senior class pictures that were taken straight on look awful. I ended up putting the picture of me taken from the side, with me looking down pensively, into the yearbook (my brother calls it the "there's a rat on the floor" picture). As I was leaving WA in '92, I went on a tour of the town and took a picture of myself in the woods, the myspace/facebook take-your-own-picture shot, and there it is again, a big nose...I don't have a big nose! Wedding photographer caught the trick, too, didn't realize what my nose does in pictures.

So I'm always surprised to hear that that is a flattering way to take a picture of someone, because it is so unflattering to me!

Just read yesterday she got married. And, interesting tidbit that I should have realized but didn't until I really looked it up (was getting confused between the woman on Bones and the woman on Criminal Minds for some reason) is that she is Zooey Deschanel's sister!

She's exactly who I was thinking of when I opened this thread. She is VERY thin in person, much more so than on TV. She had one of her kids on her shoulders and was wearing at least 4inch heals (This was at Disney, of course), I thought she was going to break in half.

I wish I could figure it out myself. I have several thin friends. When I take pictures with them they appear to me, just like they are in person. ME on the other hand, I always appear bigger...maybe I'm in denial that I'm really THIS big or maybe it's the camera. I'm going with the camera! :lmao:
