Does POFQ have a true "Disney" feel?

To me there are two types of "Disney Feel". There are the resorts that have the in your face Disney touches. The values obviously have this with their icons but I also would probably put the Contemporary in that category as well given the monorail, Mickey shaped pool, Chef Mickey's and it's proximity to the Magic Kingdom.

Then there's the other Disney Feel. The theming of something non Disney that is done in that all immersive way that Disney does so well. With Disney touches thrown in. To me POFQ does this type of theming very well. The New Orleans vibe is all over, from the buildings, to the Mardi Gras themed food court and pool. As you walk along the river or through the resort it feels very Themed by Disney. I think the new rooms feel less themed than they used to be but pretty much every resort is going that route. And the new rooms are very nice and well done imho.
We love POFQ and POR and feel they connect and compliment each other very well!

I am not particularly a fan of the mardi Gras type of theming. We stayed at POFQ for the first time this past March, and I still feel that way. It is just a personal dislike. However, I did like the resort. It is very small with lots of NOLA theming. It gets down to personal likes and dislikes. I like POR much better with it's laid back southern charm and the mansions area. There are more pools to choose from, and we love the quiet pools close to all the rooms.
Until POR switches back to being non dog friendly, we will go to POFQ mainly for the boat to Disney springs and the smaller size. It doesn't scream Disney to us but screams NOLA in a "quieter" way. If you want large icons then the values might be for you. Just have to try it I guess.

I ageee with prior poster, I am not a fan of the New Orleans theming (remember those creepy faced things in the food court?!)but it is a lovely resort and we would not hesitate to stay recommend staying there. I Also love CSR as I grew up in the Southwest, but agree that it isn’t particularly Disney feeling and feels more like a convention hotel, which it is. I don’t think the new tower hotel is going to help either.

If you want full on theming, you can’t beat AofA, but my guess is the suites are way more expensive than one room at POFQ!

It's blissfully quiet. It's typically Disney immaculate. The cast members are wonderful. The location makes quick trips via bus to Epcot, DHS, and MK. And the boat ride via the bayou to Disney Springs is a blast (with the accompanying banjo music, LOL).

We love it.

The resort reminds us a lot of New Orleans Square at Disneyland, including the food court menu (beignets!). We like the smaller resort size. There's just one bus stop. No matter which building you're in you don't have much of a walk to the pool, lobby or bus stop. It's also nice to take a relaxing boat ride to Disney Springs.

I think it has a much more Classic Disney feel to it than some of the other resorts... it has a subtle ambience. And there ARE Hidden Mickeys all over, but you have to explore to find them :)

POFQ will give you that Disney feeling of being in their version of New Orleans. The theming is done well, right down to the little streets you walk along to get to your building. They have a fancy man greeter and a good selection of nola style food in the food court.
We loved it:)

POFQ is definitely our favorite moderate resort, maybe our favorite resort period. It feels very Disney to me. Think the flavor of NO without the gunfire.

:rotfl:
I'm staying here for the first time in a few months, and after reading all these, I'm even more excited!

We just got back from our first stay at POFQ. It was AMAZING!!! The food court was great. The refurbed rooms are tremendous with a big screen smart tv, and wonderful Beauty Rest mattresses that were so comfortable. We slept like babies.

The pool is great, and the pool bar Mardi Grogs and the indoor lounge were fantastic.

The boat to Disney Springs was enjoyable and convenient.

We booked a Free Dining Bounceback for next August at BWI while there, but if POFQ wasn't excluded from the offer we would have booked it there.

Just a truly terrific resort.

We have stayed at all the mods and were huge fans of CBR. With all the construction there and the dogs at POR, we decided it was time to try FQ. We absolutely loved it and wish we would have tried it sooner It's smaller than the others and so peaceful. I think as all the resorts are being refurbed, the old Disney theming has been reduced quite a bit. There just aren't as many Disney icons seen in the rooms or around the resorts. That being said, I think FQ is a beautiful resort. It's right on the river, colorful and fun, and I believe the staff members there are the friendliest we have encountered at any Disney resort.

My husband and I stayed there for 2 weeks around Christmas about 5 years ago. It definitely had a Disney feel to it. They have a nice store. The only thing we did not care for was the food court. This time we are trying Riverside.

The food court was remodeled since your stay- FYI.

com on...Beignets and Second Empire architecture wit street names like Rue D'Bega....what could be more Disney! Great Moderate- In my book equal footing as best w/ Riverside (slightly lower on the landscaping which is amazing at riverside for a moderate, and missing a sit down restaurant....But did I mention the Beignets (and other REALLY good breakfast options)Kides loved the pool when they were younger (under ten)

Thanks SO much for this input! We don’t need “in your face” theming like A of A, although that’s really fun! I know everyone defines the Disney feeling a little different. I guess to me, it’s not just immersion in a theme but sort of a magical, unique vibe you get. We got that at CBR, perhaps because of the Pirates of the Caribbean pool and the characters at the pool & the steel drum music. We didn’t really get it at CSR. Although that pool and the grounds were really beautiful, we just didn’t get the Disney touches. It sounds like POFQ really has a cool & unique Disney vibe.

I know exactly what you mean, despite it being really hard to explain. I’ve only spent one night at CSR, but it felt “off” for me from the moment I stepped off the bus. I felt very removed from Disney somehow, even with the little Disney touches and even the visible fireworks at night. I don’t really know how to put it into words, but it felt nothing like FQ or POR. I definitely feel the Disney when I’m there.

^^ This. Feeling removed from Disney is a great way to describe it. Glad to hear you feel Disney at POFQ!

POFQ was my first choice when I booked our vacation this past February, but it wasn't available for our week-long stay. We ended up at POR and absolutely loved it, but we visited POFQ a couple of times during our trip and it's really charming with the NOLA theming and compact size. I would say "yes" to both Port Orleans resorts.

I've booked an 8-day stay at POFQ next April or my family of 4. We usually stay at CBR, but want to try something different. The small size & theme of POFQ appeals to us, and my kids think the pool looks fun. I love the idea of trying the Riverside pool, too, since the resorts share amenities. I'm hoping the resort feels like a true Disney vacation. We stayed at CSR last year, and while the pool & our rehabbed room were amazing, we didn't really feel like we were at Disney. I don't know how to put my figure on why CBR had that feel for us and CSR didn't, and I realize everyone has different opinions, but I'd love some input on your experience at POFQ...good or bad. Did it have that Disney feel? During a peak time (Spring Break), do you think it's a good option? Thanks!
We have stayed there a couple of times and enjoy it! FQ is more "themed" than Riverside, but to us, both feel like Disney. Check out Boatwright's, I think it is an under appreciated sit down restaurant. Enjoy!
