Does PhotoPass *ever* work on Guardians?

Just back from a mostly-excellent Disneyland trip, and I'm curious if other people's experiences are similar to ours. We rode Guardians of the Galaxy 5 or 6 times, and NEVER were able to get our ride photo to show up in the Disneyland app. Most other rides were fine - Splash, Space, Radiator Springs, Incredicoaster - but none of our Guardians pics ever appeared.

I'm guessing it's due to having ~20 people in the picture, and that increases the odds of someone doing something Disney deems "inappropriate" - ruining the chance for anyone to get their ride photo - but just an assumption...

You are correct-- if someone is naughty, they won't publish the picture... Nowadays, that means if someone took their mask off or wore it under their chin after the CM closed the door.

We had no problem getting our photo on our three rides in June. But that was when masks indoors were optional.

Did you see the photo when you exited the ride? I'd contact the photo pass service and ask them about it. Our Incredicoaster photo never showed up and the photo pass people kindly tried to track it down (unsuccessfully unfortunately as the camera was malfunctioning that morning).

Interesting. I haven’t had any photo issues with the ride. The photo and number have been posted on the way out every time.

Yeah, the photo was always displayed in the exit area, and we snapped a picture of it, and preserved the # that way. But when we enter the # into the Disneyland App, it gives the standard message about your photo will appear soon, and it never does. I'll have to look more closely at the "pictures of the picture" to see if some folks weren't keeping their mask on - likely what was going on.

Thank you for posting this -- I've been having the same issue with our Guardians photo, even submitted the request to Disney PhotoPass Services and hadn't heard back. I looked over the picture before reaching out to them to make sure there wasn't anyone doing anything inappropriate but I didn't think to check mask compliance - sure enough there's some fool with his mask down in it. >:( At least now I know!

I went on Guardians 7 times during Oogie Boogie Bash and 2 of them showed up. And then I bought photopass later that week and did it 4 times or something and I think 1 of them showed up. I think it’s because they don’t let you have the picture if someone isn’t wearing a mask which almost always happens when there’s like 30 people on the ride. That was never an issue on Incredicoaster since masks aren’t required. Cars was never a problem I think because the picture is outdoors. Same with Splash Mountain. I think I did have some issues with Space Mountain as well since it’s fully indoors but it’s more likely to get people obeying the rules when it’s only a few people in the picture.

I think it’s dishonest of Disney to hold back pictures because someone wasn’t wearing a mask because you don’t get what you paid for. You shouldn’t be punished for OTHER people not obeying the rules

earlier this year Universal was putting hatching baby dinosaurs over people’s faces if they were unmasked, so the masked people could still buy their photos. Disney could absolutely do the same. Cover people with Groot or Rocket.

my Guardians picture wouldnt show because a guy had his mask down. they cropped him out for us....when I asked the Photopass person why i was being punished for anothers non-compliance he said "we cant know for sure he wasnt with you"

Technically it’s an open air portion of the ride when the photo is taken. They shouldn’t be concerned at that point and let photos go out.

I totally understand your feelings. It frustrates me too!

On the other hand though, if Disney allows pictures of people breaking the mask rules, it appears they allow/agree with/endorse the behavior. Additionally, where is that line drawn? If they ignore someone not wearing a mask, where is that next barrier? Can I take my shirt off and be in just my undergarments if my personal bits are covered? What about certain fingers being extended?

I'm fairly certain it's somewhere in Disney's fine print that attraction photos may not be available in certain instances so that they can't get sued about it.

The mask problem could also happen due to the fact there's a large number of guests in your same picture, since it's the entire elevator car. Attractions like rollercoasters don't have that issue as it's normally just you and a few other guests.

Would be nice if they could come up with a quick edit feature to allow Photo Pass purchases without showing the mask-less (or other rule breaking) guests.

Yes, its frustrating when people's rule-breaking affects your ability to get the photo. It happened to us EVERY time at TOT in WDW last May. I like the idea of covering the offender with a character. Seems like it would be simple to do. However, since it seems like at times every picture has someone breaking the rules, that might put a burden on the cast members to edit things all day long. Maybe could use some automatic software???

I got my GoTG picture but they did warn us that if you took your mask off, the photo was deleted. There was another ride we did where the photo didn’t show up

my maskless guy photo did show at the end of the ride (which i took a pictture) but never showed in the app when i put the number in...thats when i called photopass

This has been driving me crazy since they reconstituted masks indoors. I haven’t gotten a single Guardians picture since! 😫 (in 4 trips and many rides) SOMEone always has their mask down in such a big group.
