Does one tip cleaning people?

My DD hired a cleaning service to clean her new apartment before she moves in. Would you tip and how much? She has never used them before and may or may not use them for regular periodic cleaning.

I do not tip my cleaner but I live in the UK and we do have a different tipping etiquette here. I pay them hourly a good rate I don't see the need to tip on top. I do give them a bonus at holidays though

I would not tip for this type of service, either on a one-time basis or if it became regular. But I agree that if the same person(s) provided services on a regular basis and were doing so come Christmas, I would give them a cash gift then. I'd not do so at all if the cleaning was done by various, random people throughout the year. (Like it might be if you contract with a large, corporate or chain cleaning services company.)

I don't tip and I use a service as well. If I had the same people each time then I would do something around the holidays. This is pretty standard for my area.

We have a woman who cleans our house and we give her a bonus at Christmas but that is all. We also have a cleaning service at work and don't do anything at Christmas for them since it is a service and it's not always the same people each time.

We tip ours at Christmas time each year. I'm not sure what we'd do tip-wise if it were just one occasion.

Cleaning services are usually an independent business. They have figured the value in with what they charge for the service. Just like I did my paid job everyday and never expected a tip, so goes others. Places that we all know do not pay a sufficient amount of money to their employees, like wait staff or hotel maid services then it would be good to do.
