Does Netflix's newest announcement change your opinion?

I was ticked about the original change but I kept both services (streaming and 1 DVD). I was expecting something to be announced soon.

Well, this was certainly not what I was expecting. It sounded very petulant and condenscending to me. I was hoping they would announce plans to expand their streaming options. While I love the idea of the streaming, it is severely lacking in content. Pretty much everything I watch is not on streaming (newer releases, TV shows, etc).

This morning I was pretty irritated by the email so I ended up dropping the streaming. We are still going to keep the 1 DVD plan for now since my husband likes to watch a lot of obscure "B" horror movies as well as for episodes of tv. We will just use Redbox/Blockbuster Express for new releases. We had been thinking of doing this for a few months, so this email was just the catalyst I needed.

We canceled DVD's when they did the price hike and haven't regretted it in the least. I'm tempted to cancel streaming now too as we switched to better cable and I'd rather pay for HBO and do the occasional redbox. We seem to use that more.

HBO GO is great if you haven't started using that yet (free with your HBO subscription). I watch a lot of the HBO shows and it is great since they have all the past seasons as well.

We haven't had cable for about a year and had been using Netflix (well, mainly my bf had been using Netflix to have something to fall asleep to). We had the DVD and streaming, but decided to just go to streaming last month. I've been analyzing our bills and recently saw that we are being charged $45 a month through Cox for DSL internet. I saw Verizon and Direct TV have a combo pack for DSL internet, NFL sunday ticket, 3 movie channels for 3 months, and all the other channels for $50 a month. We'll be saying good-bye to Netflix completely soon. Netflix tried to be greedy in a market where there are too many different options.

I cancelled all Netflix services back when they announced the price increase. We just don't use it enough to justify a 60% price increase for the same service. We use the Redbox 1-2 times a month and get movies on demand from HBO/Cinemax/etc with our cable subscription.

We cancelled the dvd's and kept the streaming. My kids use it all the time. I couldn't justify paying the extra for the dvd's because it seems like we always get the oldest or last thing on our que. It just wasn't worth it. I didn't really care about the e-mail today because to me it's all the same. It was kind of stupid how it was worded, though. They need a new PR person.

Price increase didn't bother me (what hasn't gone up in price the past couple of years???) but the new name/ 2 websites to visit...that is annoying.

So raise your price and then make it more difficult to manage your product -:confused3

I finished up the DVDs I wanted to get through (was working on a TV series) and canceled before my September bill. So now I'm just on streaming because it works better with my schedule - I rarely have time to plan ahead and watch a movie.

But seriously that was condescending as anything. Timeline of process:

Netflix announces price increases for the SECOND time in one year and commits highway robbery of their most popular plan (Streaming + 1 disk) by increasing it by 60% after it already had a 10% increase earlier.

People cancel in droves and tell Netflix what they think of their bullpoo.

Netflix throws confetti in our collective faces and goes "OOOOH Look at the pretty colors! See?! You're not getting robbed, it's just two different companies and that somehow makes things different and we're sorry for being *Bleeps* about it but we aren't doing a bloody thing! OOOOH!"

So price increase + less convenient service for the brave souls they haven't alienated yet plus a rude and condescending customer service attitude.

[sarcasm]Good job Netfliwster. Someone in your marketing department deserves a raise.[/sarcasm]

No-we got rid of the entire thing. They never had the dvd's and blurays avail, would wait weeks sometimes for 1 of a new release. The choice for streaming was also limited. We watch a lot of TLC, DISC, History... There choices were not longer a good fit.

Goodbye Netflix, no thanks to Qwikster. I cancelled the DVD portion and will probably be canceling the streaming portion soon. The streaming content is very limited, and the quality isn't that great. Also, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the way they handled the recent price increase. When there are other better options I will be done with them. I will go back to using Redbox and the library.

I don't care about the price increase. We'd switched to one DVD and streaming a while ago and that was what we intended to keep. Even sans Starz they had a lot we wanted. Until I got that insulting and patronizing message from Mr. Hastings. Now I'm no longer terribly interested in giving money to a company that thinks I'm stupid and apologies to its customers by not apologizing. We are looking into the DirectTV/Blockbuster arrangement and Amazon Prime.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I'm okay with the way they are splitting the two services up. The price compared to cable is still fantastic to me so I'll be staying.

I am canceling everything before my next month starts. I was teetering on the edge of canceling and the letter pushed me over. There has got to be some bad management over there at Netflix and I am not inclined to pay their salaries.

I agree that the letter was a bunch of smoke and mirrors-really, they must think all their customers are lacking brain cells.

It is just scary that so many hardworking people can't find a job and others can mess up big time and come out ahead.

I Canceled the DVD this morning also, I really don't want to have to deal with a separate company separate charge that keeps going up and up... I will keep streaming as long as there is content I want to watch but the value of the product had declined in the past several years...

Price increase didn't bother me (what hasn't gone up in price the past couple of years???) but the new name/ 2 websites to visit...that is annoying.

I agree! I wasn't too concerned with the price increase, but having to go to two different websites, have 2 different 'lists' etc. is going to be a PITA.

Our new billing cycle doesn't start until next week, so we cancelled today. It's not really about the price. I don't like the way they handled this whole thing and the fact that they are poised to lose both Starz and Disney. At that point it will all go to heck. I also don't want to deal with two websites. We have HBO, so I think I'll check out their streaming service.

NetFlix has decided to separate their dvd-by-mail service from their instant streaming service (renaming the dvd-by-mail service as Qwikster).

Will this change your opinion of the new pricing structure? We will be sticking with our newly downgraded "streaming only" plan!

I just can't quite figure out what their angle is! :confused3 wondering what everyone else thinks?

We just last week decided to save the $10.00 dollars a month and downgrade to streaming only. Sounds like netflix may be digging themselves a hole in the ground....

The condescending, arrogant letter changed my mind. We have really enjoyed Netflix, but there are other fish in the sea. The bad attitude, coupled with decreasing streaming content=me canceling when our next bill is due.

I cancelled the DVD portion. DH and I watch streaming movies and shows all the time. I don't really care about the price hike because it still blows cable out of the water. Cable is expensive, full of commercials, and they show the same movies and shows over and over.
