Does MVMCP sell out? What if I can't go last minute?

I am trying to plan a trip for a large party, one of which has health issues that could blow up all these plans at any time. I am trying to balance making sure we get reservations/tickets/etc with cost in case we have to cancel. Parties are new to us and I can't find the answer to the questions: 1) Do the parties sell out typically? 2) If I buy tickets now and then have to cancel, can I get a refund or credit for future ticket purchases? I would appreciate any advice you can share. TIA

Parties do sell out. The one over Veteran's Day weekend could sell out. Then most likely a variety of December dates, including most of the ones the last week they offer it. But there will be others as well.

Tickets are not refundable. You also cannot trade for a different date.

1: yes some party dates do sell out well in advance. Every year it seems as if there's about 10 dates or so that sell out. I would buy tickets as soon as you know 100% that you are going.

2: tickets are non refundable. However, people have had luck calling Disney and explaining that maybe they had a death in the family or due to unforeseen hospital bills now they have to cancel their entire trip, etc..and getting a refund. But in these instances posted on this board where people did get a refund, I haven't seen where it was a really large party, and they've always called quite a bit in advance. So idk how Disney would handle if you bought tickets for a large party and then say a day or two before try to call and get a refund.

Technically they are non refundable, but how about travel insurance? Maybe that would cover tickets if there was an issue and you had to cancel the trip....it's something that I know people talk about having, but I've never used it so I don't know if ti would cover tickets.

Thanks so much for the info. It is a 50th anniversary celebration so trying to make it extra special, and you all just helped with that! We are traveling with 8 people - large party for me but maybe not the kind of numbers suggested by my 'large party' comment originally. I'll probably roll the dice and buy the tickets when they come out then. Thanks again

Are you comfortable telling us when you're going? Your time frame may not be a sell-out situation.

Yes, travel insurance could cover this, as well as anything else that is non-refundable. You just need to make sure you purchase a policy that covers the reason you'd cancel, or a "cancel for any reason" policy.

We'll be there the week after Thanksgiving. Thinking maybe a Tuesday party. And travel insurance sounds like my best friend for this trip. Thank you so much!

Here are two articles that might help you decide when to buy, but I agree that travel insurance is a GREAT idea. It's not that expensive, and well worth the peace of mind. Shop around, though.

Keep in mind you'll need travel insurance for each person who has a ticket, if coverage for that is what you are looking for.
