Does music ever bring you to tears?

Or am I the only sap among us?

I broke out the Christmas music earlier today, trying to wrap a few gifts before the rush sets in. Somhow I came across a CD I bought last year but never listened to, "Baby Its Cold Outside". It has a song on it I knew by Joni Mitchell called River. On this CD its Aimee Mann singing it. Not sure who Aimee Mann is but her singing this song just brought me to tears. What a beautiful, soulful voice she has. She's on my list to find out more from.

Also heard What A Wonderful World today. That song always makes me teary too. Somehow I made it without crying today. :p I guess I had enough of the tears with River. Some others that get me: America by Ray Charles, Ava Maria by anyone. Anything that strikes me as sentimental or if I'm struck by the beauty of someone's voice, I'm boo hooing. :p Embarassing, especially in public. A few times I've lost it at church. DH will just give me the  look and then I am torn between laughing and crying. :rotfl:

So am I the only one? What songs make you teary?

"Let There be Peace on Earth" brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. So does the "Star Spangled Banner" and a few others.

Oh for goodness sake, I haven't heard that song in years and I'm in tears just THINKING about it. :p

You are not alone. Somewhere Out There always makes me cry. It reminds me of a friend of mine that died many years ago. :goodvibes

Please, just seeing the title of this post made me eyes well up. I am just a mess!

of course music evokes an emotional response. "In My Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride gets me all teary-eyed.

That stupid song about the Christmas Shoes. I HATE, HATE, HATE the song and I also HATE the fact that everytime I hear it I cry!!

I've cried to Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from Phantom of the Opera, Apart and To Wish Impossible Things by The Cure, and What Happens Tomorrow, The Seventh Stranger, Pop Trash Movie, and Lady Xanax by Duran Duran.

Yes...I am a first grade teacher and we attend church every week. Church songs ALWAYS bring me to tears, especially around Christmas time. Another song that makes me cry is "Goodnight, My Angel" by Billy Joel.

Imagine by John Lennon... they played it a lot after 9/11 and now whenever I hear that song it reminds of it. :(

I concur with Let There Be Peace on Earth -- we heard it at the Candlelight Processional a few months after 9/11 and it was the most moving, hair on the back of your neck raising experience I've ever had.

The Adagio in D for strings gets me weepy and, I know it's weird, but the National Anthem always gets me.

Yes, there are songs that are very emotional to me.

Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven came out literally a couple of weeks before the death of a very, very dear friend that I've never quite gotten over. So of course it was all over the airwaves at the time. I can't listen to it all these years later without thinking of him and at least getting misty. Another is Everything I Own by Bread (showing my age) which also makes me think of the same person.

If it's weird for you than it's weird for me also!! I can't help but cry on this one.

The Christmas Shoes does it for me too.

Let there Be Peace on Earth

and a whole slew of others have me running for the hanky when I hear them!!

Oh, my gosh, JJ, I'm such a sap, the list of songs that make me cry is endless. Oddly enough, certain Kingston Trio songs make me sob because my Dad listened to them all the time. There's a song called, "Turn Around" that will turn on the waterworks in a heartbeat.

Then there are the songs that remind me of dd when she was little. The music from the Electric Light Parade does it. :rotfl2: I remember her watching the parade at 5 yo and it's so clear to me when I hear that music that I can just see her little face. The song that the Glenn Close character sings to little baby Tarzan makes me cry and also the song that Jessie from Toy Story II sings. (I can't remember the name right now but I have to skip it when I play one of my Disney cd's.)

There are like a zillion others but those are some of the weirder ones. :teeth:

Just about every other song on the country music station gets me - especially Carrie Underwood's "Don't forget to Remember Me" and Heartlands "I Loved her First" :guilty:

I Loved Her First does it to me also but the song that makes me boo-hoo like crazy is Tim McGraw's "Don't Take the Girl."

"When She Loved Me"- it makes me cry, too. and not just a little bit- I do the Ugly Cry every time I hear it. My DD and DH (non cryers, darn them :teeth: ) look at me funny and say, "You're crying AGAIN??!!??" when they catch me.

OMG, I don't even know your friend and I'm crying for him at the thought of those songs. Especially the Bread song. That is a sad one.
