I agree with Lukas87 with the exception of "most" in the context of the majority of people who are pended are declined. There have been times when this has been the case. There have been other times in the past when everyone who was pended and didn't get rejected for a background or no rehire got in.
Pending is like being in a standby line for a show or club. You may get in. You may not.
None of us know how many people are pending, but Lukas87 is correct, most people tend to not announce that they didn't make it so you can't make a judgement on the small sampling of people you may encounter here, facebook, or other internet locations.
The reality is that you may not get in and you shouldn't put your life on hold with the expectation that you will.
If someone is pended, their interview was good enough to not be declined. Otherwise, someone who was pended would have been declined and not told to wait until December 1.
Since they are offering other positions for people who want to audition, they have to have a group of people to fill those positions opened up by those who pass the audition. Guess who that will be? Pending people.
I'm also reading from some who got offers that there is a specific date listed as to when they need to respond by being included in their letter. Guess who that offer will probably go to if someone doesn't respond by their deadline? Pending people.
Last semester I read that there were people who didn't pay their fee in time after accepting and were then changed to decline. That opened up some spots too. Guess who got those?
If you are pending and time is getting close and you need to start making plans for the next semester, then you need to decide if you want to stay in that standby line or go on and make other plans. If you choose to stay, then you know you may not know anything until early December. If you jump out of line, then you can go on with your life and let someone behind you move advance a bit.
