Does it matter?

I've noticed on another board that regular weddings are more popular then Disney weddings......as in more people post, respond, get involved etc with PJ's and discussions.......and i've noticed the same thing here as well only opposite. It seems those who are planning a WDW or DLR wedding have more interest shown in their PJ's then those of us who are trying to create a Disney or regular wedding at home. So my question is does it really matter? Do you find yourself being more interested in Dream Fairytale Weddings or all weddings? Just curious.......:goodvibes

I'm always excited to hear about all kinds of weddings since I'm also planning an at-home reception after our DFTW. I also scour tons of wedding magazines and shows for ideas. I have to admit I am a little more active in PJ for DFTW just because I know more about them compared to a regular at home wedding. That being said, I've gotten great ideas from all sorts of brides, so I hope you don't feel left out here pixiedust:

I don't think it's a thing of less interest, but maybe not as much "in common"...by that I mean this board is "primarily" set up for those brides who are getting married at Disney. It seems there is always some confusion on DFTW packages and what is included and all that. Deciding on a location for the ceremony or reception is more "limited" than in the big outside world so here is where DFTW brides come to see what others have done in the past.

If you go for a "regular" at home wedding, the ceremony and reception locations can provide lots of pictures of things they have done in the past, Disney doesn't do that as much and this seems to be the best resource for that.

The good thing is that, IMO, the brides here are very welcoming even if you don't have a Disney wedding. We can maybe help you find the Disney touches you are looking for for your at home wedding.

Personally, I try to respond to posts about intimate weddings and the basic package because that is what I know. I guess I don't read too much of the PJ's simply because I'm envious;) of those still planning...my wedding was 2 years ago and while I hope to have a VR someday, it's probably a good 8 years away!

It's so nice to hear that those of us who can't have a DFTW are still welcomed here and our ideas are appreciated! I am going to be taking a Disneyhoneymoon so that puts me in with the "clique" :lmao: I would love to hear what others have to say though so keep it comming!:goodvibes

Disney Weddings for me!!! You have to realize many of us on the Dis have been married at WDW or are planning a WDW wedding so it makes sense.
I was a Disney bride and when you read what others are doing it brings all that joy and wonderful memories back. You also know how magical their wedding will be and in some ways makes up part of a special club:bride::smickey:

I am having an at home wedding and going to Disney for part of my honeymoon. I love reading all the trip reports - Disney or otherwise but don't necessarily always post. I have noticed with my planning journal that while there are not a lot of posts, there are a lot of views, so I assume there are a lot of readers and not posters like me.

I also assume that maybe people don't have a lot to add since their experience is with a Disney wedding and not an at home wedding and that is okay. I just like to share anyway. =D

Slightly offtopic but I would have loved to have a Disney wedding but there was no way I would get DF to agree or our priest (and it was important to me to have him at our wedding). I guess that is why I read...I can live through others. :rotfl2: I also would have loved to have a Disney themed at home reception but my sister did Cinderella last year. There used to be a lot of tension between us because she always thought I was the favored child and always thought I got everything, etc... I didn't want her to feel that I was stealing her thunder when we were finally getting over the past and becoming close again.

I mostly only read PJ's of people who are planning Disney weddings, not that I couldn't gather ideas from someone who is planning a wedding somewhere else, it is just that what they have to say will pertain to me a little more.

I love all weddings.....
I had the disney wedding but now helping SIL to be plan her naval academy wedding ………
so i like both

Normally just read the PJ, if there is something unusual or something i just love i'll post...other wise i normally just lurk....

I hang out on regular weddng planning forums too! The disney wedding is a new descision.

That said I think people really just read what they can relate to!
A disney bride probably can't relate as much to a non-disney bride.
I'm not having the 100 person wedding but rather a small wedding so I really like to read intimate planning journals!

It's a Disney wedding and Disneymoon board. You are all welcome, and the ideas that are used at the Disney wedding you can definately do at home. Basically, we all have pretty much the same elements (bouquet, tuxes, dresses, etc.) the location is just a little different. Everyone is welcome!

I think the fact that you're getting married is pretty awesome in itself, and who cares about the location/specifics...at the end of the day, the point it is, you're MARYYING your lifelong SWEETHEART....right? :)

I agree. Disney weddings are a pretty specific niche. I think it is just a matter of having common ground and not necessarily a lack of interest.

DIS-brides are very nice! Much friendlier than what one usually sees on wedding related websites... ;)

I mostly lurk, too. I come out to post every now and then. I used to work in event planning and I mainly read these boards out of curiosity to see how Disney does things.

BTW, wendy46001-- I love your signature pictures! Beautiful! Did you do a trip report?

I'm so glad to know people read the non Disney PJ's!! I'm excited to be planning an at home Disney Castle themed reception and an 8 day Disneymoon at DLR and am sooo glad to have a group to come to who understand the excitement!:goodvibes
