Maybe I am overthinking it, lol.

Here's the situation... My son is playing at ESPN, and we will be staying at the team hotel. However, my husband and I want to take our younger children to POP for one night (while our son will stay at team hotel with teammates). We are all going to MVMCP that one night, as it is our last night. So, I still need to book the room and get the party tickets. Since our son isn't on the hotel ressie, but needs a MVMCP ticket, will it mess up MDE? Should I purchase the two separately? Does it matter, other than those of us in the room can get our FP sooner? I think I'll wait on the FP so we can get them all together tho. Oh, and I'm completely confused on the magic bands....we each have active ones from last time. Son won't get a new one since he's offsite, but we will. If I book party tickets, will they link to our current ones, then if I book a room, they'll issue us new ones?? EEk. help!? :-)

I'm sorry I do not have an answer for you, but I wanted to respond to say that I think these types of issues point to why Disney has taken trip research and planning very much over the top. Too much anymore it feels like you have to learn the secret handshake, head over to the designated super special meeting place, hop on one foot while reciting the motto, etc. -- for a visit to a resort and theme park.

So not our speed as things stand now. Good luck to you OP!

It won't bother a thing. You don't purchase a room/party ticket package. You will get a room and then you will purchase however many party tickets you need. Every thing will be separate
Remember, bands hold no data. All they do is provide access to the information in your MDE account so any resort info and ticket info, including party tickets, will be accessible by any active band on your account
If you have bands from a trip less than 1 year old you can decline new bands and use the old ones.
If your son not in the resort room has an old band he can use it for the party too.

I don't believe there are FP+ during Party Nights.

You can have Party tickets without being hotel guests, so no, your 'missing' son will not impact anything to do with Party tickets.

As has been stated, it is not going to mess anything up. Also, MDE may let you make his party FP at the same time as yours since there is a valid resort stay that allows 60 day booking. There are many reports of that happening as long as someone on the MDE has the on site stay. However, if you want to make sure that you can make his at the same time you make yours, you could add his name to your resort reservation when you make it. It won't matter if he is actually in that room or not.

You can make them, but only from 3:30-6:30
