We are staying at AKLV our first night and then doing MK our first day.

Does the time you check in have an impact on room selection? I hate to have to spend my first morning sending my family to MK while I cab it to BW and then bus to MK.

I will do online check-in ahead of time, but I know that wont secure our room.

I had planned to send our luggage over via bell services from AK

BUT I dont want to wait to check in til afternoon if that will have an impact on the room we get.

We are booked for 8 days for a 1bedroom preferred view. Last time we had a view that allowed us to be facing the green area in front of the ferryboats, but we also could see straight down the boardwalk, it was great. Id like to having something good. Oh, it wasn't too bad a walk to the elevators either.

Obviously the earlier you check in the better the chances of getting something other than what was pre assigned to you probably a day to two before your arrival. The CMs generally have the ability to juggle things a little if you ask very nicely. Especially the earlier you check-in.
If I understand this you are staying at AKV one night then moving to BW for the rest of your stay? And you do not have a car.

I would be packed and make arrangements to have bell services pick up your bags for transfer to BW first thing in the morning. I would then take a cab to BW about 7:00 am as you suggest (not to many options for getting there that early) get checked in there, go down to the bakery for coffee and, and then bus to MK to rendezous with your family by 9. You could to it even earlier but then you would probably need to get back to AKV, probably not worth it.
Or you could assign the task to another member of the family and sleep an extra hour:rotfl:

If you are that concerned about room location, I think that's the only option you have.
Good Luck getting what you want.

yes,
its myself and my husband, and a 17 month old who can not stand/walk and a 4yr old.

I dont think I can handle the 3 pieces of luggage- I could leave that with bell services, but take a cab over.

I just don't know what I could get if I dont get there in the morning....
I don't suppose I can get a room assignment if I went the night before?

Bell services will take care of transporting your luggage for you, You probably should arrange for it the evening before, for an early pick up.
Just lay out your clothes for the morning and pack up everything you want to go to BW, they will give you a receipt for the number of pieces and when you get to BW call Bell services and they will bring them to your room, or they may be in your room when your get there.

Unless your room is ready when you check-in at the BW they will not tell you what the room number is, but I'm sure they will tell you the area and view that it has if it is not ready, but they will give you the keys. They will then send you a text message when it becomes available. When you return to BW you can go directly to your room, no need to go to the check-in desk.

You'll have to decide who is more well suited to go to MK or BW, but it sounds like you have been selected to go to check-in while DH takes the kids to MK:thumbsup2

I'm sure you won't have any problems.
BTW my guess for the cab $15-18

Added: I just noticed you are from CT also, where abouts. I'm in Bridgeport
Is your home resort BW, mine's BCV, you can probably tell by the sig

I don't know that I'd go to that much trouble if you are planning on physically checking in SOMETIME in the afternoon. Perhaps if you were going to be at the park all day and not arrive at BWV until late at night. But if you are going to make it to BWV in the afternoon, there is still likely to be some alternate room availability. If it were me, I'd put in a room request, and go enjoy the day at MK with my family.

In my experience, the BWV pretty much pre-assign rooms. It is rare to get a change at check in unless there is something drastically wrong with the room. Checking in early makes a difference at SSR (or any of the other resorts that use the "Room Ready" method for room assignments). But I don't think BWV uses that process very often, if at all.

So FWIW, I do not think checking in first thing is going to make a difference with respect to your room assignment, especially since you plan to do on-line check in. Make sure your most important requests (1 or 2 f them) are on your reservation (call MS for that if you haven't already) and show your arrival time as the time you think you will be arriving at the resort to check in.

Enjoy your stay!

Thanks everyone for your replies- they have really helped.
I think I will make it easy on myself and do the bell services at AKL and go to MK and enjoy the park.
When we are done we will go and check in, I will have already done the online check-in ahead of time. If it's not ready, we will deal with that as it comes.

I think I will use garden grocer. I dont know what we will do as far as food on the first morning, but I'm sure I will figure something out.

Carol, your post has really helped put my mind at ease, and you know, the last time we stayed there, I didnt know the resort and just trusted their assignment and ended up with an amazing location. I think I will just relax and stop worrying and trust that any room at the BW is going to be a good room. ;)

I agree with Carol, anytime I have stayed at BWV my room was preassigned.

Were you in a studio last time? The Village Green is just studios under the preferred pool/garden category. If you have a 1 bedroom, you will be over one of the pools or the lawn at the end on the canal across from the Swan. With small kids, I would request close to the elevator, which will probably be main pool view.

We had a 1 bedroom and the ferry boats were sort of to the left, and we faced the green but had a view straight down the boardwalk facing ESPN

I had that room one time as a boardwalk view. You actually got an upgrade. I think that room is "borderline". There are some rooms on the other end that face the pond and the valet parking lot that are sometimes standard view, sometimes preferred view at the whim of the front desk. I think yours was another one.

Nope, not an upgrade, this is considered a "preferred view" according to DVC. Which is what I booked this time too.
