crockpot or slow cooker you use.

I have a 6 qt slow cooker - with the kids moved out it is only DH and I.

I have been looking for slow cooker recipes for the 2 of us and many of them recommend a 3 1/2 qt - 4 qt slow cooker. I really don't want to buy a new one.

Does it matter? Can I somehow make the 6qt smaller?

Thanks!!

I've read that in order for a crockpot to heat correctly it needs to be about 3/4 full. If your recipes are smaller than I assume the crock will only be about 1/2 full. You may find things are getting done a lot quicker or even burning. You could make larger quantities and freeze half?

I don't know that I'd rush out to replace yours however if you are happy with it. I will say that the newer models cook much faster and even on low, cook hotter. I'm sad that my 20 yr old model died because I haven't cooked anything good since replacing it. I cannot seem to not overcook every darn thing I put in it.

It has something to do with the new food safety laws but I hate it. I bought a new one because mine is old and ugly (but works!) and I always go back to the old one. I hate the new one except for using the warm feature.

You cannot go out and leave the new ones on.

I would not try a much smaller recipe in a 6 qt but you might be able to make a little less. Or freeze extras.
