All this "inclement" weather has me thinking... (how's THAT for an understatement??). Has anyone ever had it rain while out to sea on their cruise? We'll be sailing this coming January.

Well yes of course!! They do try to sail around rain, but sometimes there's no place to go. Summer 2003 we were heading to Cozumel and we dodged some of the downpours (you could tell by the looks of the clouds that it was just comming down hard) but we didn't manage to miss them all. I think we were an hour or two late arriving in Coz because the captain did keep us out of the most sever rainstorms.

MamaCrush -

Great question!! Yes, it does rain and has, for us, on 2 of our 4 cruises. It was only really hard for a brief period on one cruise.

Of note: The weather is often much cooler than folks assume and they bring only summer/beach clothes. On our January, 2000 cruise -all the sweatshirts were sold out on the first day because it was much cooler and windier than folks anticipated.

But, no matter the weather.............it is always wonderful. Have a great cruise!

Thanks. We'll definitely remember to pack warmer clothes. Especially with DS4 and DD3 on board!

I got drenched in May from a very short, but very hard rain shower.

People were running for cover on deck 9/10...

Last November, we were hit by a shower on our way out of Freeport. DH and I were watching it coming closer and closer, and we ducked around the back of Palo to get indoors in time. On the way, we told a small family who was watching the port behind us that they were about to get wet. They turned and the look on their face when they saw that wall of water coming was priceless... but they made it inside right after us -- and right before the downpour. It didn't last long, though.

We also had a hard rain the first night at sea. From our seat in Palo, we would see the water washing back and forth across the deck. All sunshine by morning, though!!

Yes I have a friend that was on the cruise and it rained the whole day of Castaway Cay. She said it was depressing to look out the window and see Castaway Cay and not be able to go to it.

We were on the Magic January 31st this year and our sail-away party was moved into the atrium due to rain. That night while sailing down the east coast of Florida towards Key West my husband and I sat in the adults hottub in the torrential downpour and laughed ourselves silly! :teeth: :teeth:
We had left Buffalo two days before in a blinding snowstorm so we didn't really care! The next morning the sun was up and it was incredibly warm in Key West. Normally the rain are quite brief and sometimes it is so hot they actually feel good!
Have a great time! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We cruised January this year and had a brief rain storm on St. Maarten for about 10 mins or so. We could see a thunderstorm in the distance one day, but never near us. Other than that is was beautiful. Very warm. Water was beautiful and warm as well.

We cruised on Wonder Oct 2003. Perfect weather every day except a brief shower during the sail away party and torrential downpour late one evening. Most people didn't even know about it, had to record it to show DS next day. By coincidence just watched it on DVD ten minutes ago.

The water is only warm enough to form the really big storms during hurricane season, but there's always a risk year-round. We were on the February 22nd Eastern last year, and experienced 35mph winds and rain one night. They try to avoid it, but a storm is a storm. In general, though, there was less rain than I was expecting (no regular 10AM thundershowers, or anything like that). All of our port days were free of rain.
