Does it seem that there are many more negative posts recently than in the past? If so, to what do you attribute this change in attitude?

All messageboards go through a cycle of:

1. Friendly beginning.
2. Wavering interest.
3. Second wave of intense interest.
4. Evil trolls.
5. Wavering interest.
6. Lingering hopes it'll get better.
7. Depending on luck, it can get better or it can shut down completely.

Hope it doesn't happen to this board.

We want to believe that Disney is some kind hearted wonderfull place that only wants to make us forget the real world for a few weeks a year. Well, they aren't anymore. Disney has grown too large too fast. Stockholders always demand higher returns.Higher returns require cutting cost-services- and charging more. There is a limit how much you can do this & I think Disney passed that threshold a few years ago. It's also a people problem. Anybody here responsible for hiring new employees ?? This country is in trouble, not just Disney. Young people now days for the most part only care about themselves, this is a ME world. They feel if they show up for work then they deserve a paycheck. I also feel most newer employees don't look at Disney as a career position, just something to do till something better comes along. A lot of that feeling may have to do with Disneys cost cutting, but when you were young, did you work your butt off regardless of the position- It was a pride issue.
And lastly, it's the customer. There are a lot of unreasonable people out there. We've all posted about them- non paying guest using pools, smoking in non-smoking rooms, butting in charactor pic lines,etc,etc... like I stated early- just a sign of the times, unfortunately.

Actually this is probably the most civil board or list I'm on. Since a couple of previous members are no longer here, things seem to have settled down nicely. It seems there are rarely personal attacks. We must differentiate between disagreeing in principal and personal attacks.

Negative comments are often "easier" to make than the positive ones. We then make the mistake of assuming that these issues are the normal experience, when they are usually the exception.

We all expect things to be a certain way. When they are, we usually find no reason to report that things are "normal". When something was less than our expectations, we are often eager to share our misery with others.

This board certainly provides a forum to discuss all of these issues. We can all benefit by a better understanding of how DVC works and how we can recognize what is "normal" from what is not. Sometimes, our negative impressions were created by misunderstanding- sometimes on our part, sometimes due to interpretation by others (even CM's).
Whether the issue is pool hopping, occupancy or facility utilization there are often two sides (or more) to consider.

I personally appreciate the civil discourse which usually transpires on this board (and I know that Carol and Robin feel the same way). While there are moments when some choose to test the guidelines, most are quite good about respecting Pete's "house rules" and making positive contribution- no matter the tone of the topic itself. Thanks! :)

I agree our country may be in trouble, but as a very very hard working young person (30) I took offense to your comments. I give almost 25% of my paycheck to my parents and younger siblings to help them out. Just remember, we did not raise ourselves. If you don't like how "Gen X" turned out look to their parents. Sorry everyone for this negativiely, but I really felt attacked by that generalization.

Sorry Kimber but I don't consider you to be young,(just kidding:-). I was refering to entry level kids, 18-21. Go to Burger King,Mcdonalds,Acme,etc... do those kids impress you. Do they look interested in their job, much less willing to go out of their way to help you. Hell, that can't even make change at the register. They want to live at home with mom & pop until they get married so they have no motivation,ie bills to pay, to not blow off a days work because they'd rather sleep in. They don't think that if they impress the boss, maybe it will mean more money or better position. I've hired & fired a dozen kids with this attitude, you rarely find an "old school" teenager. And your right, it is the parents fault to a large extend. And to any 18-21 yr olds reading these post-as with everything there are exceptions. But KIM I'd bet you've seen this attitude in the workforce, you know what I'm talking about and I do apologize for offending you.

"I was refering to entry level kids, 18-21."
Generalizations do not make yourself look very intelligent.

"Go to Burger King,Mcdonalds,Acme,etc... do those kids impress you."
What about the adults that work there, do they impress you?

"Do they look interested in their job, much less willing to go out of their way to help you."
What about the adults that work there, are they willing to go out of their way to help you?

"Hell, that can't even make change at the register."
Can the adults there do better?

"They want to live at home with mom & pop until they get married so they have no motivation,ie bills to pay, to not blow off a days work because they'd rather sleep in."
Name one of those kids you described that you know personally. Or are you just getting this out of thin air? Perhaps this is a racial issue, would you care to describe whether they are white, black, brown, yellow or red? (disclaimer: sarcasm used here)

"They don't think that if they impress the boss, maybe it will mean more money or better position."
AHAHAHAHA, You think McDonald's reward their employees if they work harder? Maybe a quarter per hour raise after six months. LOL

"I've hired & fired a dozen kids with this attitude, you rarely find an "old school" teenager."
Do you think the "kids" plan on working there long? What reasons would they have to work hard at a place they don't want to work at?

"And your right, it is the parents fault to a large extend."
YOU'RE not YOUR.

It is sad for a young person like me to see adults with such condescending attitudes toward younger people. However, I am old enough to understand that prejudice will always exist.

I have to agree must people 30 and younger (yes, I am 30) don't have the work ethic of their parents. Granted its just an observation and not ment to be a blanket statement. I will say also that its entirely our fault. todays companys don't care to much about workers( I don't know about Disney and how they treat the workers). It is true that some young adults just show up to collect a check. I say some but not all.
I am not trying to sound mean and nasty. IMHO take the guy or girl at Micky D's who is flipping hamburgers, if he or she under cooks those burgers perhaps hundreds of people could get sick, don't tell me that job is not "important" and he gets maybe $7.00 an hour ?

Somehow this thread, about negative posts on the DVC Board, has deteriorated to a discussion totally off-topic for this board.

Anyone who wishes to discuss work ethics may start a thread on the Community Board.

Thanks!
