Does free dining come around yearly? Same time every year?

With 4 kids, free dining is going to save us a TON. This trip isn't happening for a few years and I know things can always change, but HISTORICALLY, does free dining come around yearly? Is it usually the same time every year? Do you usually book without it and call to change things when it comes out? I'm trying to do a VERY rough budget for a trip in 4-5 years (yes, I know this is VERY far out) and I'd love to try to get in on the free dining.

Yes, free dining has been offered at similar times for several years. Of course, that could change in the future, but you can check out historical discounts to get an idea. The site below shows what dates the discounts were valid as well as the dates they became available to book.

It's typically late August/early September to right before Christmas. However, there are blackout dates which vary year to year. You just need to check-in on an included date.

The dates included are:
August 31 - October 3
October 26 - November 1
November 9 - November 20
December 12 - December 23

Disney Value Resorts ~ Quick Service Dining Plan Included This can be upgraded to regular plan for $18.65 per person per day ($3.20 for children).

Moderate, Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts ~ Regular Dining Plan Included

Some resorts are excluded, such as All Star Movies, Mermaid Rooms at Art of Animation, Port Orleans French Quarter, Port Orleans Riverside, Campsites at Ft. Wilderness, and 3-bedroom villas, and Villas at The Grand Floridian.

A 3 night minimum stay (14 night maximum) and two day minimum park ticket is required for each person in the party.

Booking now and adding later doesn't guarantee you'll get free dining. Discounts limit availability.

Good rule if thumb - if you're going regardless, book early to get what you want. If you can't go without the discount, wait until it's offered.
