Does DVC Block Interval World Timeshares in Kissimmee?

I know this issue has been addressed in the past, but I'm still not 100% sure of the answer to this question. We have an Interval World timeshare in Kissimmee and I'm checking to see if it's even possible to exchange it into a DVC resort. Ours is the highest caliber level, so that matches, and we plan to go in late January during an slower weak, so that works.

However, I've heard rumors that Disney completely blocks Kissimmee timeshare exchanges into the DVC. Is that true?

If so, is there any way around this rule? Since this is an off-peak time, I assumed it might be possible. But now I'm getting discouraged. There are only two of us so even a studio or 1BR would suffice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My DH and I also have another timeshare in the Kissimmee/Orlando area. There is a 50 mile radius area around Disney that prohibits you from trading into Disney. We also have a 5-star timeshare, and we can't trade into DVC because it is too close. That was something that was not explained to us when we purchased. Disney is listed in the II book, so we thought we could trade and discussed that specifically with our sales person. No one told us we couldn't trade, so we purchased thinking we could try to get into Disney ever so often. We have called directly to II and they tell us the same thing. No trade! Wish I could sell my other timeshare, I would buy more DVC points!

Disgusted in Illinois!

Sounds like your "other timeshare" has some shady practices going on. We had the same experience with what "other timeshare" sales people told us when we were looking into buying DVC. It didn't take us long to figure out they were blowing smoke! We went back and purchased the more expensive DVC anyway, because we knew it was where we wanted to be.

disney doesn't block them.

each resort has the option of blocking other resorts. Westgate does big time - had to buy another resort in another town to see what I am missing.

DVC generally does not show up on the local ones. that say marriott and fairfield have been know to pull it.

are the Marriott showing up.

if they are - then great you have a nice resort.

if they aren't - then you don't have a 5 star resort.

some resorts - like Westgate has been know to send II $$$$ to say their resorts are 5 stars when they aren't.

that say if you are pulling Marriott in Orlando - then you should be able to see disney's hh or disney's vb.

I'm confused now. Are the Disney resorts being blocked because of our current timeshare resort's policies?

Unfortunately, our current resort is the Westgate Villas. Does that mean the Marriotts won't show up either? I was under the impression this Westgate hotel was the highest level (according to Interval). Is that not true?

Is there any way around this obstacle? Would calling them help?

II has an agreement that you can't switch resorts in Orlando, regardless of how good your timeshare is. I have 3 Marriotts and one Mystic Dunes, besides my DVC points, and I can't switch any of them! I can, however, trade my Hilton Head Marriott. I was really ticked to find that out--you can trade within Marriott, but you can't trade over to Sheraton, for example. After finding that out, I deliberately bought Hilton Head so that I could trade in.:rolleyes1

well I can & do exchange my Westgate for other resorts in II in Orlando - Cypress Pointe, Sheraton Vistana, blue tree

but I also own another timeshare in another city.

if you only own Westgate then westgate blocks other timeshares you can only see westgate.

there is something about the 45 day rule - but Westgate is still not seeing Marriott then, much less DVC.

where my much cheaper, but more in demand, beach location does.

Right now, I can see the Sheraton Vistana and Vistana Villages, lots of Westgates, and some other random resorts that aren't rated as highly.

Not to get too off-topic, but is the Sheraton Vistana worth it? I've noticed that the Resort is really close to Disney, just a few miles from Downtown Disney.

yes but try to get VIT - that is lakes, VIO - is foundation

go back over to the Orlando hotels & attractions for more information on Sheraton Vistana

I had stayed there using RCI and it was fine.

stayed there using II got the unit that was promised and boy - it was great!!!
(lakes)

As a previous Westgate owner I can tell you it's a dog. Any timeshare week that sells on eaby for just a couple grand is not likely to rate a DVC trade, no matter where it is located.

Vistana Villages is the newest Sheraton in Orlando. I'd go for that one if you can see it. Try for a 2 bedroom. Some of the 1 bedrooms are mini's and some are deluxe. If you go with a 2 bedroom, you'll have at least 1100 square feet.

DVC and Marriott's in Orlando are blocked from other Orlando timeshares trading into them via II.
