Someone (on anothe BB site) suggested I get the "unofficial guide" and the author makes reference to getting a FP for live entertainment. Is this correct? He also says Nemo is on the FP system and I know that it is not (but probably should be). Good thing I only paid $0.75 for the book. :rotfl:

There's a reason they are 'unofficial' :rotfl:

You're right, no FP for Nemo.

And no FP for live shows. Aladdin did offer FPs when it first opened, but hasn't had them for years now.

But if you go with a package offer (through disney aka WDTC, costco travel, AAA, getawaytoday.com), they generally offer "preferred seating" vouchers for things like Aladdin, Muppets, tough to be a bug, and one other thing. So that's a sort of fast pass.

That sounds like the 2007 edition. If you can, you might want to go to the library and check out the "Unofficial Guide to DL 2008." The dining information in the '08 edition is much better.:thumbsup2 (The dining information in the '07 edition stank.) :upsidedow

We booked through Costco and just got our tickets today. I was surprised to see the preferred seating vouchers. Hopefully they're worth it. Do we still need to wait in line?

I have the 2008 edition checked out from the Library right now and I feel it has a lot of inaccuracies and old information in it. . It still lists the Aladdin show as a fast pass attraction and there are many other things in there that are not correct at present. I am up to date on a lot of things at DL, so it doesnt' affect me, but I think it would be very frustrating to a newbie who was planning things according to the inaccurate info. in the book, if that was the only book that they were using.

It sounded like the OP had the "UG to DL '07," and the dining information in the UG '07 was really awful. But they did a major rewrite of all the restaurant reviews in the UG '08, and I just wanted to let her know about that. ;)

The UG incorrectly mentions that there are FP machines at theaters, on p.91. But to be fair to the UG, when the UG describes the Hyperion Theater on p.295 it doesn't mention FP, and the Aladdin show isn't mentioned on the list of FP attractions on p.93.

I'm not a big fan of the touring plans in the UG, and I think that they can be unhelpful to a newbie. The UG '08 says, "...if you're touring with children, less is definitely more. Trust us, it's tough [to] go full-tilt dawn to dusk in the theme parks." on p.110, but then the UG has a "Dumbo-or-Die-in-a-Day Plan." And the UG '08 says, "If you must cram your visit to DL into a single day, the one-day touring plans will allow you to see as much as is humanly possible." on p.83. But I think that these points get lost on many newbies. The UG also says, "Because optimum touring calls for leaving and returning to the theme parks, it makes sense to stay in one of the Disney hotels or in one of the non-Disney hotels within walking distance." Good advice, but in the touring plans they never include any break times. Heck, they barely allow time for lunch. :) But there are people who like the UG's touring plans, and I respect that there are different views.

I'm familiar with the UG and Birnbaum's, and I think Birnbaum's is better. I like the tone of Birnbaum's, and I just find it more helpful. IMO the HydroGuy Tips Compilation has better touring information. And this link on the DIS has plenty of good information about the rides/attractions. Did I mention that I think the UG descriptions of rides are overdone? :)

HTH :earsboy:

FWIW, I noticed these errors in the UG '08:

Explorer Canoes:
UG says, "When to go: Before 11 a.m." and "Try to ride before 11 a.m."
But the Explorer Canoes, when available, open at 11 a.m.

Keelboats:
UG refers to "keelboats" on p.234
But the Mike Fink keelboats haven't been operational since '97.

Snow White:
UG says that the Snow White character is never seen in the attraction, on p. 242
But the attraction has included her since 1983

Maliboomer:
UG incorrectly mentions that Maliboomer has FP

Walt Disney and Club 33:
UG says that "[Walt] Disney entertained his friends and dignitaries" at Club 33, on p.98.
But Walt Disney died 6 months before Club 33 opened.

Autopia:
UG implies that children are not allowed to sit behind the steering wheel in the Autopia cars, and the UG incorrectly advises adults to "shift your child over behind the steering wheel" when the CM isn't looking, on p.156.

eTickets:
UG incorrectly says that e-tickets are actual tickets and don't have to be exchanged later for real tickets.
But the e-Ticket (PDF) print-outs have to be scanned by the CM at the turnstiles, and the CM prints out the real tickets at the turnstiles.

Camelot Inn:
The UG has the incorrect location of the Camelot Inn on the map on p.38

Mickey and Character Meals:
UG incorrectly says that Mickey appears at the Plaza Inn character meal

Aladdin's Oasis:
The UG doesn't list Aladdin's Oasis on the DL map on p.214, and the UG doesn't mention Aladdin's Oasis in the Adventureland chapter.

I mistakenly referred to Birnbaum's book instead of the UG. (I realized this after I typed this and looked at the book.). I haven't looked at the UG one in a long time, but I do remember, as you said, that there were a lot of errors in it. While Birnbaum's is better, I was still surprised at the amount of outdated or inaccurate info. in it for an "official guide". I totally understand that you were trying to help out the OP with the dining info. in the UG and my reference was only to the overall book in general. (although I had the wrong one in mind....oops. :)
