would you splurge on this, or do a character meal?

The kiddos and I (and my DH) were at WDW back in November and did 5 character meals, so I don't think they're hurting tooo much for some character interaction!

We're going to DL with my mom and I want to do something special for us on our trip. She is *very* frugal, and while she has gone to DL sooo many times on weekend trips with her man friend (they live in AZ) over the years, she has never done anything like character breakfasts, etc. (my mindset is "you're on vacation, you're supposed to spend money on frivolous things :rotfl:)

If the F! dessert package is still offered...would you pick this over a character meal?

They do offer the Dessert Box Seating Package for F! for about $60 that you can call Disney Dining and reserve 30 days out.

While it is nice to have a seat and probably, though not surely, a great view, it's not a huge time saver. So is not an easy choice between the two.

What I like is the Minnie and Friends Breakfast at the Plaza Inn. Breakfast is ok, character variety and interaction is great(better than anything in WDW), and it can help get you into the park early in some situations.

It would depends on if the kids want more characters, if you want to see rare characters, or if you want seats and snacks for F!.

Have you thought about treating her to a meal at Blue Bayou? The atmosphere is amazing and we thought the food was good!

I think if you've never done it before, but done many character meals, I would go for it! We've done several character meals in the past and on our last trip in November, I wanted to surprise my mom and nephew with something new, so we did Fantasmic premium viewing. We had never seen Fantasmic, so it was even better. Some people spend a decent amount of time trying to wait to get what they consider the best seating, but we got great seats. We had the back row in the middle, but it was nice to be able to stand up in the back. I could see great sitting down, but I had a sleeping baby that I needed to stand and rock, so it worked out perfect.

The amount of stuff you get is much bigger than it seems, definitely not enough to be eaten in one sitting by one person. I thought that while it was pricey, it was completely worth it. We also sat and watched fireworks from there, which is actually not too bad of a spot if you don't feel it completely necessary to watch from the hub. My mom was so happy and although we packed a ton in our trip including character meals, staying at DLH and doing the holiday tour, we thought F! was the best part of our trip!

I love doing this..the chair is great after a long day at the parks, the box is full of good stuff..cheese and crackers and grapes as well as desserts, and for us it is a big time saver. We don't freak out about being first in the check out line and after you do check in, your seats are assigned and you can wander around until close to show time. I bet your Mom would enjoy this for a nice splurge and a chance to give her feet a rest.

I have read through the different threads about the Fantasmic Dessert package and am assuming I know the answer but want to check on a couple of things....

1. If I want to pay for this with a Disney gift card, is it possible?

2. Does the dessert package come with any sort of drink? Can you bring drinks in with you if they are not provided?

Thanks everyone!
Jen

Yes on drinks. All-you-can-drink non-alcoholic drinks.

Not sure about gift cards but I do not see what not.

WHen I purchased our Fantasmic package last summer, I paid using my Disney Visa Rewards Card/Gift Card.

Another big thumbs up here for the reserved seating:)

We did it in 2011 and loved it.

You can get soft drink and hot drinks all you can drink. Our CM also bought us a soft drink and a hot chocolate right at the end before pack-up and said keep it and have as you walk around.:yay:

I used a disney gift card to pay for ours back in October, don't think that's changed, so you should be fine.
