I just fell in love with the Ice Cream Social at WDW at the Garden Grill. Does DL have anything close to that. You know an inexpensive social interaction. Or what is the least expensive character interaction?

Unfortunately not! Disneyland does not have the huge array of character meals that WDW does. However, I do find that there are more characters around to mingle with. For instance, the Pooh characters are out almost all day at a very nice, organized meet and greet in Critter Country. For the cheapest character dining, breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen is cheaper than dinner. Also, Cap'n Mickey's (formerly known as Ariel's Grotto) in DCA is around $20 for an all inclusive lunch or dinner. It is not a buffet, but you get soup or salad, entree, dessert and drink for a fixed price. I wish Disneyland would get that ice cream social too!

Just adding that they do have a more affordable Birthday party character interaction called My Disneyland Birthday Party.

They give each person a small cake , frosting, and sprinkles. Birthday hats and cups with punch.

They have a person named Pat E Cake that I heard is really funny and then Mickey and Minnie (or other characters) show up at the end of the 40 minute event.

This is at the same location as the Princess breakfast, it is only offered a few times in the early afternoon and then the restaurant (Plaza Inn) begins its usual dinner service.

According to reviews from 2002 the price was $10 per person.

When you are in DCA, go to the Animation Building. The Princesses, Cruella and Sorcerer Mickey are there throughout the day. The plus is that the building is air conditioned and animated movie clips are shown non-stop! Some characters can be found at the Storyteller's cafe in Grand Californian - they don't roam as they do at Goofy's.
