Just realized my credit card payment was due yesterday- it's usually not due till the 15th or 16th, so I paid it today & its a day late :sad2: . Will they charge me a late fee and finance charges? I never carry a balance, but I paid the balance of our vacation and some other stuff, so I have about 5200 on there, 2700 of which was due yesterday.

I can't imagine they would miss an opportunity to add fees. IIRC Chase runs the Disney card and they are not the most consumer friendly folks.

If you are a good customer (always on time, pay at least the minimum, etc.), there's no harm in calling to ask them to waive the late fee as a one-time courtesy. You have to ask for it, they won't offer if you call and simply explain the lateness. You will be responsible for the interest as well as the late fee. So ask about getting that credited as well.

Yes, they do charge if you are one day late - no grace period!

I would do as aka suggested, they will likely waive it one time as a courtesy, but be prepared to pay the finance charge, they may not waive that.

they might I say might let you slid, but Chase is not the nicest customer service. I know credit companies are not nice but I know alot of people that have had trouble with them. But you are going to have to call and see if they take pity on you.

I work for Chase at a local branch...we often have very good customers who pull an oops...so I will help them call. As long as you always pay on time they will gladly grant you a refund once the OD fee has posted.

Good luck with Chase. They will probably raise your interest to 29.9% to add insult to injury.

I think their is a BIG difference between the credit card division and the bank part. You might be a great bank but as far as a credit card, not so much. But there are big differences in the bank and credit part of most cards, citibank, bank america, I consider the credit a seperate person.

If you had the 6 month 0% interest financing on your trip, your 6 month grace period will now be over. This actually happened to my last month. I charged a Disney cruise on my card just to get the 6 month free financing. I missed the payment date by one day. Not only was I charged a late fee but I also was charged interest and I no longer have the free financing. Fortunately I have the money to pay it off now, but I was hoping to do it over 6 months instead of taking it out of savings. Maybe I will call tomorrow and see if I can get some of the fees waived, but I am not hopeful.

The same thing happened to me once last year. I've never carried a balance; always pay on time, etc... But one month, we had some unusually crazy things going on in our family and I just forgot. I woke up in a panic in the middle of the night, realizing I had not paid the cc bill that day. The next morning, I called & explained why I was late. I asked for a courtesy waiver of the late fee and finance charges. No problem. And, in my case, the Chase customer service was nice as could be.

I was late with a payment once that was not any fault of my own. I mailed the payment two weeks before the due date and Chase received it the day after it was due. When I called I tried to explain that I had mailed the payment in plenty of time but the customer service rep didn't care. He told me that it was not Chase's problem if the USPS couldn't deliver the mail on time. I proceeded to tell him that I had never been late with a payment before and always paid the entire balance each month. He then said to me so what do you want me to do about it. I asked if he could waive the $35 late fee. To which he replied, are you asking me to waive the late fee? Yes, I am. What is so difficult to understand. He told me that as a ONE time only courtesy, he would waive the fee. He went on to say that he could not offer that option to me and that he could only waive the fee if I specifically asked him to do it.
He was miserable, rude and the antithesis of customer service. If I had not asked about waiving the fee, he never would have offered to do so. Chase held my mortgage for many years and they were the worst company to do business with. When they took over the Disney Visa from Bank One, I was very upset. Bank One was always pleasant and helpful. As soon as I can find a replacement card I will be dumping my Disney Visa.

I'm sorry that everyone thinks Chase credit card customer service is so terrible. I'm on the phone with them several times a day. This has been over a period of 4 years. I was Bank One before the merger. Many employees are the same people...we didn't loose our jobs when Bank One became Chase. I offer my customers great customer services, above and beyond. I love my customers (in general) and think they deserve the best. If I don't like an answer or get an attitude I ask for a supervisor. I've only had to do this twice with Chase cc over the years. I find that many times people are calling upset, not collecting their thoughts ahead of time. I don't think it's unreasonable to find a bad seed every now and then. Look at all the threads about CRO and WDWT. Everyone is fine with saying hang up and call back if you get a bad one. It should be the same with every company. I deal with lots of cc companies, mortgage, utiltites, other banks, etc. I've only been shocked a few times with rude behavior. I hate hearing how Chase is so horrible in the customer service area.

FWIW, I had a similar issue occur with my Amazon Visa right after Chase took over (about 3 years ago). My case was a little more convoluted (I was out of the country, my mom who was supposed to be paying the bill was distracted by my dad's illness) but they waived the fee, and said they only report it to credit bureaus if it happens more than once.
Then again, I'm also in the weird minority who has nothing bad to say about Chase.

In most cases, it are computer systems that add those fees and whatever. They don't have an army of people going manually over every record.
In the software, rules are set up.

When I was a Lions Club treasurer, I received every month a bill for 1 cent. Apparantly, during a previous payment, the exchange rate had made that there was 1 cent left to pay. I was not going to pay just that 1 cent, but waited until a new real invoice arrived, because the international payment costs are high.
The computer at the Lions Club head quarters didn't realize it was just 1 cent; Computers don't think. They follow the logic that has been programmed into them. That's why every so many time, it sent me an invoice.

When you call, they can probably change things for you, but if it's just teh computer to decide, yes, you'll be charged with whatever fee.

Chase has notorious bad customer service but I have a number of their credit cards because of the rewards -- Mariott, Priority Club, Disney, and Southwest! I really try to stay on top of things so I don't get burned.

Yes they will charge you all the fees they can since you were late....and that's how they make their $$$.

That said, I had an issue with a situtation that caused the bill to be 1 day late and called them about it and they waived the fees. I had been a customer for many years and never been late so that might have played a role in getting them to waive the fees.

One other thing--this happened to me once and in addition to the late fee and interest, they also take away your Disney reward dollars for that period. Ouch! I'm not a fan of Chase.
