I'm not sure how to properly phrase this

Does Disney ever release their un-rented DVC rooms to DVC members who might be waiting for those rooms. For example I'm on a wait list for a one bedroom room (for four nights), if I were a cash customer I could rent 2 of those nights. If Disney doesn't rent out those nights to a cash customer would they (do they) make the rooms available to DVC guests?
I was thinking about changing one of my wait lists to reflect what I see available to cash guests - we are only 11 days out.

Many of those "cash" rooms are available because a member is using points outside of the DVC system. These rooms are technically already booked using points so they can't be booked by another member using points.

If the "cash" room is available because it was unreserved at 60 days from check-in, it might be possible for DVC to pull back the room. You would have to call MS and they would need to get approval to pull that room back.

What we you see at Disney can also be, in addition to what was mentioned above, are rooms Disney has indeed booked with their own points.

The only rooms that can be pulled back are only the ones that are there due to breakage..meaning the ones either not reserved 60 days or less from check in or the ones that are normally still there 60 days before and Disney pulled based on that.

All you can do is call and see what they say once inside that 60 day time.

Not sure if this is related or not, but when we were looking at shuffling rooms between the 60 and 30 day mark I was also looking at cash inventory. It was interesting because some of the rooms were listed both on the cash side and the point side. Once it "disappeared" from the cash side it also disappeared from the point side.

That's how breakage inventory works. Members compete with general public for those rooms.

Got it. I assumed (wrongly) that breakage meant they got pulled from the DVC inventory and moved completely to cash. Now I understand it is an either/or situation.

Sometimes it is which is why if you see cash rooms within 60 days you should call because it could be something that can be pulled back.

Okay, good to know - seems complicated but it makes sense. Thank you! I'll try giving them a call (can't hurt)
