Does Disney holds its value?

I see it as a blend of a vacation and an investment. One of the nicer things about DVC that people haven't mentioned is the ease of renting the points if you can't travel on any given year. I've rented my points 4 or 5 times and it's taken only a couple of days each time. Disney will always be an extremely popular resort destination. Almost every friend I have who own normal time shares have trouble renting their weeks, lack flexibility in when/where they want to stay or worse, their vacation destination turns into a flop.

If you average 9 to 10 bucks per point rental you'll see you could take a vacation with your familly, rent a portion of the points and break even on a given year with the dues. The intial investment to purchase has to be spread over the course of your ownership but you can get that ROI as well. I can't see ever wanting to sell our points but rather passing them to our kids when they grow older so they can take their families to a bit of magic.

You shouldn't be buying DVC thinking about cashing in in a few years. Buy it for the same reason I did. I live in Santa Cruz county in California. As a single male with a limited income, I am not able to afford a house here. However, I was able to afford a DVC ownership. So I now can say that I do own some sort of property. For a little over $100 per month I can now afford to go on a vacation every single year. I only need to come up with airfare, park admission, and a little money for groceries and spending money. I own my DVC until I turn age 83. I can will it to my survivors when I am gone. For me it has been a wonderful experience. This past year on my 50th birthday, I was able to book two 2-BR villas at BWV and treat my friends to an incredible vacation. In 2008 I will be treating family members to a vacation. In 2010 I will be treating my single mother co-workers and their children to a vacation. This makes me very happy. It is why I purchased DVC. To have fun and bring others along for the ride. Not for a money making experience. You don't need to make money at everything in life. Sometimes you just need to do things because it feels right. DVC felt right. It still does. When I retire, I want to work as a boat captain at Epcot for 4 months a year. I'll spend the rest of the year in the Hawaiian Islands with my family and friends. On occasion, I will go off somewhere fun using my DVC points. Sounds like paradise to me.
