Does Disney have Nursing Rooms?

We're heading out to DW in two weeks. We have 4 children, one of them being 9 months. I am nursing him and was wondering if Disney offered special rooms/places for Nursing Moms?

Thanks.

Each park does have a mommy station. They have a "lobby" type area with a TV for daddy and other kids to hang out. They keep a CM there and microwaves, hot water on a stove to heat bottles, etc. Great changing areas, and a couple of private rooms for nursing. I know in MK it's over by Crystal Palace. You'll have to check the maps for the locations of others.

I nursed DS "around the world" in 2001. There are nursing areas in all of the baby care centres. Just look at your park map when you first get there, or ask a CM. It's a nice chance for Mom and Baby to both relax and be away from the hustle and bustle. But if you can't make it to one of those stations right away, there are lots of benches and such out of the way throughout the world... just grab one! :flower:

Hi! Welcome to the DIS Boards!!! :disrocks:

Yes, there are nice, quiet, airconditioned nursing rooms at the Baby Care Centers in each park - but I've never actually used them. ;)

We're just never been in the right place at the right time, and there was no way I was going to hike all the way back there when it was time to nurse. There is only one in each park, and the parks are huge! So, they just weren't convenient for us. I mean, that's part of the reason I chose to breastfeed in the first place - you can do it any time, any place!

I've been twice with my little nurser - once at 12 months and once at 20 months. We've had no problems nursing all around the world - on benches, in rides and shows, in restaurants, on boats, busses, monorails, etc. Disney World is very breaswtfeeding friendly, and no one will even give you a second glance.

So, if you are near the Baby Center when you need to nurse, I'm sure the rooms are great! But, I wouldn't want you to think you actually need to trudge all the way back there to nurse if you don't want to.

Have fun! :flower:

Some of my favorite nursing spots(besides the stations) are as follows
In MK- the walkway to toontown that is behind Space mountain(the one that goes behind the racetrack) There are a couple of benches in out of the way spots on that path and it is never crowded. I;ve nursed on an empty Weedway transport or whatever that is called now.
Any place that is an indoor show.
I've nursed in Philarmagic no problem. It is actually a pretty breast feeding friendly place.

Epcot- the easiest one to nurse- Spaceship Earth all time favorite
I've nursed on the land- alittle tricky but doable.
The Energy ride
In the countries- the French movie
in the back gardens of England
In Morocco there are plenty of hidden spots.
Same in the gardens of Japan

MGM- The great movie ride
Sounds dangerous
Outside the Honey I shrunk the kids playground
In The little mermaid show.

AK - the hardest to find a hidden spot but the easiest to get to Nursing station IMO
I also have had luck on the monorail- when we are the only family on a trip to epcot. And I also have never felt uncomfortable anyplace that I nursed. I think the international visitors that go to Disney help to make this a very nursing friendly place. Good luck
Reading what I wrote- sounds like my ****s have seen as much of disney that I have

There's no reason why you can't just nurse wherever you are. It's a big pain to have to take a long walk and then try to catch up with your family later on.

If you don't feel comfortable, you can purchase a nursing shirt to help cover you up or nurse the baby in a sling - no one will even know what you're doing. I can't tell you how many times I've nursed babies walking around with a nursing shirt and a sling. I also nursed going around and around on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority while my husband had the big kids on rides (the little guy was 16 mos. at the time). I have always nursed everywhere - just like you can feed a baby a bottle everywhere, you can nurse everywhere.

You are protected by law:

FLORIDA
Florida led the nation by enacting the first comprehensive breastfeeding legislation in the United States. The legislation not only exempted breastfeeding from criminal statutes, but created a new law that stated this important and basic act of nurture must be encouraged in the interests of maternal and child health. Finally, it provides for a breast-feeding encouragement policy for facilities providing maternity services and newborn infant care.

Fla. Stat. Ann. § 383.015
1993 Fl. ALS 4; 1993 Fla. Laws ch. 4; 1993 Fla. HB 231

The breast feeding of a baby is an important and basic act of nurture which must be encouraged in the interests of maternal and child health and family values. A mother may breast feed her baby in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether or not the nipple of the mother's breast is covered during or incidental to the breast feeding.

Can you tell this is an important topic to me? :sunny:

Yep, good point, Jehma. Florida, as a whole, is very breastfeeding friendly - so no worries at all!

Our big theme on this last trip in December was "modes of transportation". :rotfl:

I think I nursed on every boat, bus, and monorail we set foot on over the course of our 10 day trip! I think that Paul knew those transportation times were sort of "down" times, so he took advantage of those times to nurse so he wouldn't have to miss any of the real action in the parks.

By the way, I never care if there are other people around and I never cover up with a blanket. You can't see anything, anyway!

Hope this advice has been helpful! Have a fabulous trip!!

The baby care centers are where I go when I have a baby that needs a nap badly and is just too distracted to nurse to sleep elsewhere....they are wonderful places for getting baby to sleep! But otherwise I just nurse anywhere and everywhere. At least in FL your right to do so is protected too.

Modes of transportation...yeah, that's a good one. And its amazing how many other nursing moms you meet. My older dd nursed for a long time and I met several other moms who were nursing toddlers while on the monorail, etc... I suspect it will be the same next year when we go back and I'm nursing a 22mo again.

With smaller babies I often don't even stop to nurse....just keep going with baby in the sling. This is easier with nursing shirts though! Or if you stomach is something you're willing to show...lol..mine isn't.

GEM...I'm really sorry we didn't make it down to the meet at the WL in December! Maybe another time!

Nice to see another extended nurser!

Once you're on child #2, you really need to be able to nurse on the go and keep going with the older one. I found the sling wonderful for that. DS #3 hated the sling, though. He only liked the Baby Bjorn.

Yep. We're going back for Paul's second birthday in May. Unless something changes (which I don't see happening), I'm sure we'll be nursing around the world again! :lovestruc

LOL, jehma....I'm on #3. She's just not as much of an avid nurser as #2 was, so I rarely chose not to stop to feed her. Granted, sometimes it was necessary when she was smaller. My kids are spaced pretty far apart though...so I never had an <4yo and a baby.

And I usually don't call it "extended" since I believe strongly in nursing until at least 2 years....but, yes, we practice child-led weaning. Admittedly after tandeming for 6 months I was really ready for #2 to wean!

I've been nursing non-stop for 12 years and 1 month, except for 1 month at the end of my third pregnancy. I'm not sure I'll admit to more than that on this forum (lol).

Thanks everyone for the helpful info. DS usually just nurses before taking a nap. He is very easily distracted when he hears someone talking. So I will have to look for a quiet spot. I have 3 other children and I usually have to escape to his bedroom for quiet. At least I know there are some good places there.

You may want to bring cell phones or walkie-talkies so the rest of the family can let you know where to meet them after you're done. Have a great time!
