Does disney do anything special for you on your anniversary?

Hi Guys. My spouse and I are staying at the Polynesian this summer for our 5 year anniversary. I understand that Disney tries to add a few perks to there visitors for such occasions. Is it possible that we could receive a free room upgrade? Do I need to ask for it? What can we expect disney to do for us since we chose disney to celebrate our 5 year anniversary? When making my reservations over the phone, I told the CM of our anniversary. I'm not sure if they will do anything for us, but anything would be nice. I feel funny asking for a free upgrade, but what should I do? Has anyone celebrated an important occasion with disney before? What did they do for you? Would love to hear about it

Maybe it's just me, but I think a free room upgrade is a pretty big expectation for the occassion. You never know though.

I would expect and ask for nothing and be totally ecstatic about anything they did offer. From what I have heard in the past, they are more likely to give perks for people having special celebrations like yours. Just make sure you have it marked down on your reservation. When you show up to check in, be extra nice and make sure they know it is your anniversary. If they have it available, they will probably offer you the upgrade. Congratulations to you on your 5th. My husband and I are planning our 10th at DW for this summer. I can't wait.

I'd be very happy with anything they could offer us. As I said, I'd feel funny asking for anything. It would mean more if they offered something without having to ask. I'll definitely be polite as I always am and will perhaps mention it to the cast member when we get there that it is our 5 year anniversary but I don't feel comfortable asking for anything. I was just wondering if historically disney offered a free room upgrade for occasions such as this. What other perks have others received for such occasions? And thank you. I have heard of people getting room upgrades for free at WDW...and have had this happen myself. HOWEVER this is not as common as it seems on this board. Also, for Birthdays, Anniversaries, Whatever, I think OCCASIONALLY they surprise you with something. MOST OF THE TIME, I think they do nothing. Just my household alone has done 5 different birthday trips and 2 anniversary trips. We have gotten exactly 2 surprises for the occasion. 1: DD got balloons and signed card on her actual birthday. 2: my sister got a signed card and one balloon on her actual birthday. The other 5 occasions got NOTHING that we didn't buy and pay for.

The magic is sporadic, as it should be -- otherwise it becomes an expectation. Expectations can cause all kinds of problems when they aren't met.

So go, expecting nothing. I wouldn't, personally, ask for anything. Note it on your reservation like you did, and leave it at that. I would say a high number of guests on any given day are celebrating SOMETHING. They can't all get gifts or surprises, which makes when surprises DO happen that much more special!

BTW, Happy Anniversary!! DH and I want to go to WDW for our 10th, COMING UP!!!!!

We got upgraded at the Poly, it was our anniversary trip, however, I have no idea if that had anything to do with our upgrade. We did get a picture slid under our door, of Cinderella and Prince Charming, with their autographs, and it said "Happy Anniversary". It was such a cute touch. But the day before we got a picture of some Disney characters and it said "welcome back to Disney world" with our family's name. We were upgraded to concierge, so maybe that is why we got those things, but it was pretty nice!

You can get a free anniversary button at guest services, but other than that, do nto expect anything. It *might* happen, but a lot more people get nothing than get something. Keep in mind that there are thousands of people celebrating something at WDW at any given time, and it would be almost impossible to give something to everyone.

This summer is looking to be very busy, so the chances of getting an upgrade aren't big as the resort will possibly be sold out.

My Dh and I celebrated our 13th anniversary at the Poly last year. They gave us a signed picture of Beauty and the Beast, a chocolate Poly post card and when we went to Le'Cellier that night for dinner, we received a complimentary anniversary dessert.

When dh and I celebrated our 15th at the Poly last October, we were given a balloon bouquet, an autographed photo and card from Beauty and the Beast, and some kind of chocolate confection shaped in a Mickey head.

We were staying concierge, so we rec'd the chocolate postcard on arrival. *Still* can't bring myself to do anything with that but look at it, LOL!!

We stayed at POP for our 10th, and when we checked in, there was a large envelope for us. When we got to the room and opened it, it contained a Certificate of Congratulations, a letter from the hotel staff telling us Happy Anniversary, free room upgrade to a room right by the pool and food court, and a free round of mini golf for each of us. The entire week, the mousekeeping left us really cute towel animals, and gave us extra soaps and shampoos, also little notes to us telling us congratulations, hope we are enjoying the week, etc. We had an awesome experience.

In 2005 DH and I were at the Polynesian (concierge) on our anniversary and we got a personalized, autographed picture of Jasmine and Alladin. It was a very nice touch

And eat that chocolate postcard, it's actually pretty good! LOL The paper part of it is edible too. I took a couple of pictures of our postcard before we ate it, so at least I still can look at it when I want to! LOL

i honeymooned at teh GF in jauary in a honeymon suite, which is VERY expensive...so you would think a nice card or osmething extra, but we got NOTHING from the hotel at all besides some congratulations. so dont expect anything or you will be let down, go in paying for the room you will be happy with regardless. sometimes it happens, more likely if going at a slow time of teh year (which the summer really is not) and they have a lot of empty rooms. likeother have said, make sure you note it on your reservation and ADR's and they may notice and do soething special

We booked a reservation at the Land at Epoct, which is one of our favorite places to eat. We told them in advance it was our anniversary, and they performed a "re-hitching" ceremony for free. Pluto oversaw the event, and they gave us a marriage certificate and a cake. It was a lot of fun. The characters really made over us. That was several years ago, so I am not sure if they still do it or not.

Also, we stayed a AKL concierge and they left in our room a beautiful wicker type gift box with a bottle of African cologne and perfume. It had a letter with it that told of the story behind the gift. I don't remember the details, but I do remember thinking it was really nice of them to do it.

We went last year for our anniversary, I don't think I told the resort but I did mention it while making dining ressies..
At Liberty Tree Tavern they make a heart out of Confetti for us.. It wasn't a lot but it was still very sweet I thought, I kept the confetti.. It was Mickey heads..

Note it on every ADR you make and when you make your hotel reservation.
Like the others have said expect nothing and be thrilled with anything you get. I made an ADR at the California Grill about an hour before the scheduled MK park closing and we were seated next to the window so we got a great view of wishes on our 10th Anniversary.

We celebrated our 15th last July. We had noted it on our reservations and when we checked in at the BC my stepmom (who was getting a room also) mentioned it to the CM as we were jabbering with "just-arrived at Disney" excitment. The CM told us to wait a minute and then put us in side-by-side 3rd floor rooms with direct views of Illuminations!

Later that day there was a knock on the door and a CM delivered a bouquet of balloons along with an adorable autographed picture of "Captain Mickey & Minnie".

At Chef Mickey's we had noted it again and we received cute placemats autographed by all of the characters. Our server also brought us a little cake after dinner (which we didn't have room for but ate some anyway because we thought it was so kind!).

At Hoop Dee Doo Review my stepmom had noted it when making our reservations and we were called on to stand up and dance during part of the show (they have anyone celebrating an anniversary do this).

We weren't expecting a thing so each of these were fun little surprises that added to our magical vacation!

wow.. we are celebrating our 8th anniversary.. it actually falls on a Tuesday of our trip.. I just can't wait!

Every year we have gone to the Poly it has been our annv. , we have only received something twice. The first time it was a choc. post card and a card/pic from Mickey and Minnie. The second time we received champagne and choc covered strawberries. Neither time did we expect anything seeing that most times we did not receive anything. When we did though it was a nice surprise!
