ok, we have copies of my bc ( my original blew away via an F5 tornado in may99) and my sons bc, but we have my wifes original.

the original that survived 15 yrs of abuse from every move her family did as a naval officers family and now another 15+ yrs of a not to well kept storage place.

its not in that great of condition...

A new c opy of the original from the state of Washington cost 18 dollars and takes 2 months to show up.

pay for it over the phone and get it this week cost on average 50 bucks.

do we give up the bc, or do we get them back afterward???

You need them for check-in process - Show them & that's it!!! Never leave your possession. No way my wife would give those up!!!

You just use the BC as identification when you check in, however if you go on the Eastern cruise you will have to show it to customs upon arrival in st. Thomas, while onboard the ship. We put ours in the room safe until the morning we leave for home, then they go back in my purse. If you have a green card they will keep that at check in until customs at st. thomas where they do return it. I don't know why they do that, but we had a guest from Russia one time and that was the procedure he had to follow.
Have a great cruise.

Careful with Vitalcheck, in some states they can not get a certified copy. And in California, they need a notarized form before they can get one for you.
California is trying to crackdown on identity theft by only selling certified copies of birth certificates to the person named on it, their parents, guardians or someone with power of attorney.

Birth Certificates they just look at, verify information with your photo ID and you keep both.

If you use a passport and are a US citizen, they look at it, give it back and you're set. If you are NOT a US citizen, DCL with keep your passport and return it to you at the end of the cruise. If you are on the eastern, I believe that they give you back your passport and after you have cleared customs, the take it back again.

You do mean you have new originals right? You will need original or certified BCs to board the ship. Regular photo copies won't do it.

Hi,

Definitely be sure to get a certified copy of birth certificates with a raised seal for everyone. I was also born in the State of Washington, and got in contact with the records office at City Hall in the city where I was born and had a copy of my birth certificate in 10 days. Call the office in the city/town where you were born and see what they recommend. I think I only paid about $10 for my birth certificate.

If your wife changed her name when she was married, she should also carry a copy of a certified marriage certificate with raised seal. This should be done for any and all name changes over the course of a life, due to adoptions or divorces or widowed and re-married.

They will look at your birth certificate and other paperwork when you arrive for the cruise, but generally, you can put it away immediately. Unless there is a question for Customs and Immigrations (nearby) , it won't leave your immediate area.

Best Regards,
Julia
