Daughter #1 spilled coffee on her laptop 3 months into her freshman year-no warranty lesson learned! so, we replaced it with a Mac purchased from Best Buy so we could have full warranty coverage. Daughter #2 was going to be traveling with a sports team with her Mac so we definitely wanted the extra coverage and longer warranty. Best Buy not only matched the educational discount but they also gave us the cost of an IPod Touch(free from Apple) off of our warranty so it was a win/win. Both girls love their Macs!

My first laptop was a mac and I will never ever go back to PC. I got my Macbook Pro last black friday for a little less than $900 . I know we got a great deal. I got it at the marine exchange and a guess there was a problem with their system and things weren't ringing up the right price even the some of their deals were ringing full price so they had to match. Once the computer rang up he call the supervisor and they honor the price it rang up such a great deal!

new macbooks are rumored to be coming in spring-summer so you might be better off waiting a little while. Then you have the option of getting that model or the previous model at a clearance price. If you are looking to buy something soon macmall usually has a pretty big selection of previous generation models in the blowout section of their site at decent price reductions as well

We use an octo-core Mac Pro. It seems Mac has stopped really promoting these. They haven't updated in quiet a long time which in as indicator of a possibility of them dropping it from their roaster of products. I might be way off here, but it's similar with older products. A slow phase out. I don't know why they'd do they since they are fantastic machines but I guess with all the upgrades now available to the pro laptops and even imacs nowadays you can get a really strong machine without needing the tower. We have 5 macs if that's any indication of our happiness with them L)

Student discounts with an ID! Discounts also good on software like iWork, and the Apple Protection plan (a must!)
(I think I saved $50 on my $999 13 inch white Macbook just over a year ago)

or as others have said, in the summertime Apple usually offers some sort of promotion when you buy a laptop (ipod touch, printer, gift card to the App store etc).
