The company I work for is really messing with me. I have been working the same shift for 2 years and out of nowhere they are telling me that they are changing the shift. No notice, as a matter of fact, I just found out about it today and they wanted me to start my new shift tomorrow! (which I can't because I have a Dr.'s appt.). Anyway, I'm thinking it's not worth the money and I'm going to quit; problem is, I have my health insurance through my work.

Now, my husband can add me to his plan, it's not a problem. What is a problem is that I'm pregnant. If I switch insurance mid pregnancy, will my delivery and the rest of my appointments be covered?

Have your DH check with his employer tomorrow, but the answer should be yes. As long as there isn't a lapse in coverage from your present plan to his plan, he should be able to cover you and all the bills.

I did this when I was pregnant with my first DS and it was no problem. In *most* states, pregnancy cannot be considered pre-existing, but make sure before your switch.

You have 63 days to elect COBRA coverage to continue your benefits with your employer. This is a federal law so they cannot say no unless you refuse to pay.If you elect COBRA you continue your current coverage but you have to pay the premiums, typically around 400-600 per month. If you can go onto your spouse's plan before the 63 days is up you will need a certificate of credible coverage from your current insurer so there will be no question about pre-existing conditions You will also need proof that you are no longer working since your husband would only be able to add you during annual open enrollment or due to a loss of coverage during the plan year.As long as you do not have a break in coverage you should have no problem. You will need to confirm that your new plan includes the same providers(doctors, labs, hospitals) because if not you could be in for a nasty surprise if your providers are non ppo network and you have to pay a penalty for going off plan. I switched to my husbands plan and it went pretty smoothly. I work as a nurse in an insurance company. I hope that I have covered all the bases.
Best of luck. :thumbsup2

I would not quit until your dh adds you and you know that it is covered.
You just never know what could go wrong and now you have 100,000 or more in debt.

A lot of states don't consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition so you can get coverage right away for that. You also might want to wait to quit depending on what kind of maternity coverage you have. If you get a paid maternity leave it might be worth it to stay for that just for the money. Also, most insurance policies have a change of life clause where you can elect or change coverage at a change of life, birth of a baby would be one of those, otherwise, your DH's company might have an enrollment period and you can't elect coverage outside of that enrollment period.

COBRA is HUGELY expensive so if you don't have to go that route you will be better off. I would call DH's HR department tomorrow and see what they have to say.

One thing I would say to this though is that it depends on how much your insurance costs as to how much you will pay/month. When DH switched jobs last fall COBRA was going to cost us about $2000/month because his previous employer had terrible insurance that cost a fortune. Our employee portion of our insurance was more then $600/month.

Actually, you have to have loss of coverage before your DH can add you mid-year. Otherwise he can only add you during open enrollment. Once you leave your job, you should be covered until month's end. You'll then receive paperwork in the mail stating that you are no longer covered and your husband can add you to his and retro to the beginning of the month. No worries.

when my friend's ex husband lost his job, their kids lost their health insurance. there was a 60 day waiting period to add the kids to her policy, since it was outside the enrollment period and the loss of coverage did not constitute a "life event".
