Does anyone remember this TV special???

Here's another obscure one for you. I only have vague memories of it, but I do remember LOVING the special. I think it was a special on every so often on TV, animated. There was a grand statue of a man in the centre of this poor town. A bird befriended the statue and the statue could see the pain and suffering the poor townspeople endured. He instructed the bird to take some of the gold off of his body and give it to the poor people. As time went on, all the gold was gone off of the statue. That's about all I can remember now. It was a beautiful story. If anyone remembers the name of this show, I thank you!!! If anyone can tell me where I can find this special, I thank you too!!!!

...that it might have been broadcast on the CBC...when I read your signature, and Yep, you're from Canada!!

I remember this show - loved it!- but can't remeber the name...hubby will be home from work soon, I'll ask him - he has a memory for trivia like this

The reason why I think it was broadcast on CBC is because that was the only channel we received that came in really well

Cut to my children who get three hundred channels, and complain there's nothing on!! LOL
