Does anyone remember their first time being pulled over?

My first time to be pullled over was when I was in college. And no, it was not for speeding . . . but for an expired inspection sticker! And, get this, it was my Dad's car!

But because I was driving, I got the ticket.

The officer was so nice. I still remember what he looked like. When he told me that my sticker was expired for quite some time (Dad forgot and got busy) and he could not let it slide, he could tell I was going to really fuss at my Dad. I think I saw him chuckle walking back to his car knowing the kid was going to give the parent a stern talking to!

I was 25 out in Colorado. I was stopped on the highway. The cop said I was going 90 in my little VW bug. Didn't know I was going THAT fast but whatever....he was impressed that I had passed everything for a couple of miles and was very nice, as he handed over a ticket!

i didn't make a complete stop at the stop sign down the block from my house.

i go all nervous and upset then my neighbors came over to see if everything was o.k.
the cop was like does the whole neighborhood come out?
the elderly women accross the street snaped at him said
"that's right, we watch for each other.

I got pulled over about 6 weeks ago, St Patrick's Day to be specific. I was driving on a country road en route to pick up DS at about 11 pm. I wasn't in a hurry, it was dark and I was driving 40 mph in a 45 mph zone. I slowed down to make a right turn and then I saw the lights. "License and registration ma'am". I sat there for about 5 minutes and then he returned. He asked me where I was going and feeling it was none of his business, I told him I was going for a ride. He told me that he pulled me over because "I was driving just below the speed limit and turned when I saw him". I told him that I usually drive just below the speed limit at night and I "didn't see him", I was turning anyway. He said, "well drive safely" and ended the conversation with; "you know, I thought I was". He said, "yeah, I guess you were". Its very unnerving to be pulled over when you haven't done anything wrong. Two weeks ago I got pulled over again, driving down a cull de sac to pick up DS not far from my house. Again, "where are you going?". This time I said, "I am going to such and such a house, are you stopping me for a reason?" An alarm went off in the neighborhood so we are checking. Now I presume that the alarm went off at least 10 minutes before I turned onto the street so what THAT would have to do with me is a puzzle. . I probably should get a passport to drive from one side of town to the other.

I was 17 and pulled over for doing 45 in a 20, going up a hill. Fortunately, I had my dairy queen uniform on so the officer reminded me to drive slower, followed me back to work and I gave him a free shake!

so... he comes back with two tickets:

1. Speeding 75 mph in a 45 zone
2. Failure to use a turn signal as I was being pulled over

Now that is stupid! He must have been desperate to give a ticket. I think I would fight that second ticket! I bet he doesn't use his blinker!

I blew through stop sign. On purpose. Was late coming home. Had mom and dad's car (which I got soooo rarely) and didn't want to be any later getting home. Knew the sign was there, but just went on through it. As I went through, looked to the left and saw the town cop (VERY small town) and knew I was had. Just pulled over and waited on him. Started crying and he let me off with a talk... My dad was a civil defense volunteer at the time (rent a cop now) so knew all the town cops. I figured when I got home they would be waiting on me as they had a scanner... I was soooo scared I would never get the car again.
I never told them and they never said anything about it....

OH YES!!

First time in my life.... I had been driving at least 20 years... I don't know... I forget! He asks for my license and reg. I had to tell him my purse was in my trunk. I don't usually keep it there but I had just shopped at Walmart and I just put it there with my bags.
So he asks me to step out and get it. So I get out and I open my trunk .... and this cop... he has to stand back ...way back... behind me ....like what must be procedure Like I might pull out a gun or something oh brother.... he even knew who I was...
I felt I was playing on an episode of COPS

anyway I open the trunk... and there's my WALL TO WALL shopping bags
But I KNEW it was in there someplace I'd find it... lets just hope this guy isn't in any hurry
OK.... after digging and tossing... THERE it was!
Now I can get my license out and be done with this. So I take out my deck of cards ....
YES, my deck....
and NO I wasn't going to ask him to play cards ..... this deck consisted of my credit cards, medical cards, auto club cards, library cards, hotel stay type cards, grocery store cards... just cards and my license too .....someplace ....

So I took my deck and spread them out across all my bags, I glanced back to make sure he hadn't decided to shoot me already

and ooooohhhh HERE IT IS!! I found it woo hoo!! I gave it to the exasperated man and ....

then he asked for the reg where might that be?

well I'm not used to being pulled over ... it upset me you know.... give me a break

after all was said and done... he did NOT give me a ticket... just a warning. But I was sooo embarrassed and really I DID NOT get off....cuz this guy knew my DH... they were volunteer firefighters together... and I knew he was going to tell DH EVERY DETAIL

I have never been pulled over, and have never gotten a ticket. (Knocks on wood).

I was in the car when DH got pulled over one time. We were in NC with VT plates, and traveling slower than the flow of traffic. The office said we were going 80 in a 55. We were polite, but told the officer that we thought he might have targeted the wrong vehicle. If our car (1988 Plymouth Sundance) had been going that fast, it would have rattled apart! He actually agreed with us, and let us go.

My first time was just a couple of weeks ago........was in the middle of a speed trap ( I think this tactic is very unethical, but hey who am I to say) It cost me $154.00 for going over the speed limit by 12 mph. When I returned home 2 hours later they were still running the trap. They had a pick up truck parked on a side street with a laser gun, and at least 6 patrol cars lined up behind it (not counting the ones already having people pulled over) I will admit I was speeding but it is on an approach to a long bridge that is interstate and it by no means was an unsafe speed. I just feel that their services could be put to better uses like stopping the guys going 90 mph on the interstates or the ********* in my neighborhood who cruise by at 60 in a 35 area. I chose not to waste my time with the school and just paid the thing online. It was also my birthday you would think he could have given me a break! Been driving for 30 years and never a problem!

Out of state plates driving through a small town... you're always a target for local cops or state police (more likely to pay the fine). Especially since I drive a small and fairly quick two door coupe too. The thing was that he was actually going the other way, and pulled a U-turn to catch up to me, cutting off two cars in the process. Now who was driving more safely?

Definitely annoyed me a bit as it was on the way up to Niagara, but the one thing I'm most annoyed about is my insurance rates. Now NJ takes 2 points from every moving violation out of state, so right now I'm looking at 4 points on my license, which is a huge insurance hike, as sure some of you know for those of you who live in NJ.

I'm 28 and my first time was just a few months ago and it really wasn't my fault but peeved the you know what outta me. My husbands bday and my bday are on our opposite cars so often we forget to renew (it comes to my dh who has the money to pay for it so I partially blame him for all of it too). It gets to about 3 weeks after it's due to renewal and I tell him it needs to be done. So he does it via internet. It is just at that limit of a month expired that the police give you and what happens?

I'm coming out of the movies with my daughter and my sister and grandma and nephews are in their car. I'm waiting to turn and he is behind me and turns his lights on. We pull over to a shopping center and i'm flipping out to myself swearing at dh for not renewing earlier. But I figured I just have to tell him it's been renewed and hasn't gotten to us in the mail yet.

He comes up to the car and asks for license, registration and proof of insurance. Uh oh where is my insurance card? I had no reason to take it out of my box (come to find out later that my dh had taken it out when we moved from one insurance to another and we were in the process of getting a new card). So I ask the cop if I can call dh for the number and I call him and get it. At this point, my grandma gets out of the car (they pull over when they saw me pulled over) and tries to approach my car. I see the cop with his hand on his gun and he's bellowing at my grandmother to get back in the car immediately.

Without giving the cop the number I hear him at the back of my van and he's taking my license plate!!!! I'm really flipping out at this point. So he comes back and tells me to please get out of the car. Now, i'm dying... i'd never been pulled over before and now i'm being ask to get out?!? He hands me 2 tickets, one for expired tag and one for not having proof of insurance with me. And the proceeds to tell me that he does not know why but there was a ceize order on my plate. I was like ***? I said can ya give me any kind of clue why in heck there would be a ceize order?

So he tells me the van can not be driven so I lock it up and drive home with my family. It all turns out that when my husband had switched from ESurance to Geico about 8 months before, Geico screwed up on the start date (which we have proof of the requested start date & end date of the Esurance) and they started coverage 3 days after ESurance stopped coverage and we were uninsured for 3 days. And the kicker was that during that time we weren't even in town!!! So because of this, a ceize order gets placed on the tag and we had actually been driving on suspended licenses... although I can't imagine why the cop didn't say anything about that?

In the end, we ended up having the proof of insurance ticket erased because we could show it at the DMV. And the expired tag was erased because we had proof that we had mailed away for the new one. But due to stupid Geico we had to pay a fine and pay for a new lisence plate. This is the same stupid company that we are dealing with now for the car accident. They refuse to call us back! 9 weeks after the accident and we haven't seen a dime.

Ugh -- what a pain, huh? Personally I would fight the second ticket and let the judge know he was driving unsafe (cutting off the cars). Not sure if would do anything, but maybe it could keep you from having to be penalized so much.

I've never been pulled over (knock on wood), but I have received a moving violation from one of those red light cameras. It was like $300, and I had to go to traffic school. Yuck. It's definitely taught me a lesson though. Now I speed up when the light is yellow! (Ha, JK, kinda).

When the ticket came to my mom's house (since I hadn't transferred the registration to my address), she called and said you got a ticket, but at least your hair looks really pretty in the picture. Aw, thanks mom!

Yes I remember!!! I was on my way to Disney! I was going 102 in a 70 What can I say I have a lead foot. I was so scared. I thought I was going to jail. I guess it was the excitement of going to Disney.

I've only been pulled over once. It was right after we moved to Florida. DD and I were on our way to MK. I had a new car so no plates. I had one of those temporary things in the back window. Since the windows are tinted, the officer did not see the temporary thing until he walked over to the car. He just told me I might want to tape it with plastic on the outside to keep from being pulled over again. He was very nice. The next day, my plate came in the mail.

I was coming home from Michigan with my best friend and her daughter. We were driving down a country road and I was going 55mph and JAMMIN out to Copacabana!

I passed a cop in the opposite lane and he spun around REALLY fast. Which I think might have a been a moving violation on HIS part. But anyway, I was busted. He followed us forever before he finally pulled me over. I opted not to explain that Copacabana makes me dance and apparently gives me a lead foot. To this day, I don't know what the speed limit actually was, I was too embarrassed at the reason I was speeding.

I have only been pulled over once and it was DH's fault! I still remind him of this 11 years later. The story....

It was the night before my college graduation. I was moving out of my apartment the next day, right after the ceremony, so DH (then fiance) came out to help me pack everything up. At the time, we shared a car, even though we did not live together. We were attending colleges in different states, and bought the car together so that we could see each other on weekends. DH kept the vehicle with him.

Now, the left headlight on our car had been out for over a month. The car was designed so that you could not change the bulb yourself--you had to bring it back to the dealer. DH had been promising to do this, but never got around to it. (in case you were wondering, no, I could not have brought the car in myself--we actually had not seen each other for that entire month because 1. we were studying for finals, and 2. more importantly, we were broke and couldn't afford the gas).

So, of course, being the night before a college graduation, the cops were out in force, as they should be. And of course, we got pulled over--because of the headlight that DH had over a month to change. And, of course, I was driving, so I got the ticket for the headlight being out.

That is my one and only experience being pulled over. That stupid ticket showed up on my step rating for years!

Well, let's see...

When I was 16 or 17 I was pulled over for speeding in my mom and dad's station wagon That thing could go. At the time the spedometer was acting up and boucing back and forth so I told him it wasn't working properly and he let me off, telling me to tell my parents to get it fixed. I think that was my first time.


The first and only ticket I received was for running a stop sign in the middle of nowhere, or so I thought until the cop pulled me over. I was probably 18 or 19 at the time. My friends that were in the car with me felt so bad that they pooled money to help me pay for it.

I have since been pulled over for speeding probably 2 other times, each with no ticket. I was probably going 65 in a 55.

One time I was with my Dad and sister on a trip home from Arizona and they had one of those trap things set up and we were going through slowly and they made us pull over to the side and step out of the vehicle. They had they did a search through the trunk and everything. Talk about embarrassing. Turns out they pulled us over because our tabs expired in March and it was the first few days of April. We told them in MN we have 10 days to get the new stickers. They said "Yeh, we have 30 days" and let us go. All that for nothing!

I also have been pulled over only to find out they were looking for a van that fit my description. They realized it wasn't what they were looking for and let me go.

You know, my uncle tried that excuse once, all it got him was a ticket for speeding AND for having a broken spedometer!

My first and only time, it was for doing 35 in a 25. I was only doing 30, but he claimed I was going 10 over. I got a "sort of" ticket. It was only $40 and they don't report it to your insurance company, and after a year it drops off their files so if you get pulled over again, they don't see it when they run your license. It was all my mother's fault, I was trying to leave for work (I still lived at home at the time) and she kept asking me to do stuff around the house, and I wound up leaving late. I don't normaly speed in residential areas (busy roads and expressways are a differant matter! )

Anyway, that was something like 12 years ago, haven't had a problem since (knock on wood!).
