Does Anyone Purposely Buy Grapes With Seeds?

And if you do, please tell me why.

I bought red grapes at the store. Washed them, left them on the counter to dry. Later popped one into my mouth. Seeds, ugh. My own mistake for not paying attention to the words on the bag, but now what to do with them. I don’t want to throw them out, but not thrilled with cutting them all in half to remove the seeds either. I know, huge problem in light of world issues. I’m just annoyed with myself that I didn’t read the bag before putting them in my cart.

Grapes with seeds are awful.
I’ve done the same thing as you and totally kicked myself for it. Luckily, I live next to a forest so I dumped them out there for the critters to eat - they don’t care about seeds - LOL!

I love red grapes and always look for the nice, firm ones that are dark red (but not too dark), big (but not too big) and don't cost millions of dollars per pound. It ruins my day when I pick them out so carefully, only to find out they have seeds! It's not quite grape season here yet. The stores usually have the really good ones from about June through September. When we get too far into October, the grapes get small and squishy and I switch to apples as my go-to fruit. As you can tell, I'm quite serious about my red grapes! :rotfl:

Sure. For making wine. Some seeded grapes are unique as table grapes.

I only buy grapes with seeds accidentally, like OP. I don't like pomegranates, either- why someone would want to go to the trouble of getting the pips out of one when they're basically all seeds is beyond me.

I very purposely buy a type of grape that I know has seed, just because they're so delicious - Concord grapes. Full disclosure - I just swallow the seeds. It hasn't hurt me yet. For other types, like regular red or green table grapes, I do look for the word "seedless" on the bag.

Not sure many grocery stores even carry grapes with seeds, I will have to pay more attention. But even when I buy seedless grapes there are usually a grapes in the bunch with seeds. Apparently they didn't get the seedless memo. I just swallow the seeds.

Ugh, I hate that when it happens. You bite into it all happy and then, crunch a seed. I'll eat them but I'm not happy and usually fuss the entire time. I don't cut them in half, just eat them like a muscadine and sort of shift the seeds around in my mouth then spit them into my hand, I know I could have lied and said I delicately spat them into a napkin, but who are we fooling I spit them suckers into my hand. Sometimes I accidently chew a few and sometimes if I'm feeling really lazy, I just swallow them.

I far prefer seeded grapes, especially Concord, but a lot of varieties. I feel like the flavor left with the seeds.

Yes - the seedless ones are weird hybrids developed specifically for that characteristic. :( Lots of produce is like that now. If I can ever find anything marked "heirloom" or "heritage" variety, I'm all over it and you definitely can taste the difference.

I grew up eating Concord grapes that my grandparents produced in their backyard garden, and I love them. They aren’t in the stores here very often, but when I see them, I buy some. I have eaten many a Concord grape seed in my time.

I don’t mind the green seedless grapes, but the red ones are a lot less flavorful to me. I like the green ones cold out of the fridge though.

Seedless grapes are more or less mutants. It's not really predictable hybridizing to try and get a seedless variety of grapes. They just happen randomly. But there are a lot of mutants, like navel oranges. Once the right mutant is discovered it's easy enough to propagate by grafting clippings to rootstock.

Seedless watermelons are different. That's predictable. And there are still seeds (the little yellow things), but they just don't develop fully. But I've had "seedless" watermelons where there was the occasional developed seed, but they were often pretty sad looking.
