Does anyone NOT dress their little girls up for princess meals?

If you don't dress up your little girls for princess meals, why not? Have you ever, or do you plan to? I was planning on NOT bringing the costumes...I know my DD would be uncomfortable walking around the park in that, and then I'd bring a change of clothes, and have to carry around the dresses the rest of the day. Now I'm wondering though, if they'll feel left out at the Akershus breakfast if everyone else is dressed up. We're going to be driving down to Disney, so I may just pack the dresses, and see how it goes the day before, or that morning if they want to. I don't know. Any opinions?

We are taking DD to 1900 Park Fare because she likes the Cinderella posse but she won't be dressed up, mostly because she hasn't shown an interest in dressing like a princess and she doesn't have a costume. She's not an exclusive Princess type, and Cinderella has to battle with Buzz, Woody, Stitch, etc. for her affections.
I think it mostly depends on your DD's personality. I'm sure there will be other kids there who aren't dressed up, but will your DD only focus on the ones that are? Maybe you could compromise and have her wear a princess t-shirt and do up her hair fancy for the day, put some glitter on her face, etc. That way she can be princess-y without wearing a hot scratchy costume through the park. :goodvibes

We've gone the past three years when DD was ages 2-5. Because we flew down and I didn't want to waste much needed space in our suitcases with a costume, we didn't take one. My DD never once asked why other girls were dressed and she wasn't. She was too enraptured with just seeing the princesses. In two weeks were headed back and doing the Bippity Boppity Boutique package for her, so she's getting a costume there. It will be interesting to see if her experience at the Norway breakfast is any different than when she went without the costume.

we have done it both ways... sometimes I just let her change into the costume when she is meeting a certain character.. I don't mind carrying them around.. the pictures are priceless when they are dressed up....

Its all up to the child... sometimes they want to and sometimes they don't.

My mom is sewing my 18 month DD twins matching Snow White dresses. I couldn't find the costume ones in their sizes anyway. Simplicity makes Disney Princess dress patterns. I bought the infant toddler size (comes with Cinderella, Tinkerbell, Sleeping Beauty, and some other dress that I don't know whose it is). My mom is using the Cinderella dress pattern with Snow White's colors. She's just not putting on some of the Cinderella additions. Plus she is making the skirts a bit longer than the pattern. We bought the bigger girls' pattern for the cape. My mom is a talented seamstress so she is cutting it down to fit them. I wanted to dress them up for our Princess meal and for MK days. I bought soft fabrics that would be like real clothes to promote their comfort.

My mom has been working like crazy since Sunday trying to get them ready by next Friday when we leave. I want to post pics when they are done before we leave. :teeth:

My DD dressed up when we went to Cinderella's Royal table- the pics were great :) I would say it was 50/50 with girls dressed up. It was in December, it was a comfy dress and she wasn't hot. When we went last month she never wore her dresses, it was just too hot. I brought them all but she just never wanted to wear them. I make embroidered hair bows and socks and I made her personalized princess ones for every day. Many of my customers buy them from me for their girls to wear rather than dressing in full princess gear :)
Maybe if you just paint her nails and suprise her with a tiara for the day- she will feel like a princess, but be comfy too :) Have a great time!

We took our DD2.5 and DD1.5 last year to Cinderella's Royal Table for late lunch. My girls are insanely into dress up -(I have to replace their dresses every few months - thank goodness for mydressuptrunk.com!) but I didn't even pack their dresses for our trip for some reason.

We went to CRT in jeans and white fancy tops that they loved. The picture is absolutely wonderful and we were not out of place at all. I would say in the entire castle, there were only three or four little girls in princess dresses. My girls didn't even question where their "gowns" were after seeing some of the dressed up girls get their pictures taken.

This year, since we're doing Bippity Boppity Boutique I'm going to bring our own dresses for them to wear to 1900 PF dinner.

Have a great time.

We brought a Cinderella dress for CRT last year & my dd didn't want to wear it which was fine by me. She was 4.

I know everyone gets excited about dressing up - is this a relatively new thing? When I was a kid I don't remember ever seeing kids dressed up. I don't think DD will be dressing up when we go, I'll let her decide. I don't want to carry it around all day!

We always do CRT and the breakfast in EPCOT with DD7. She's been at ages 21 months, 3 years, 5 years, and 7 years, and has never dressed up. The closest we've come is wearing a Princess tee or hairbow. I can't imagine hauling all her princess stuff through the parks, but I probably would have if she wanted to dress up. We've always seen kids dressed both ways, so I wouldn't worry about it. Do whatever is easiest for you and your DD.

I don't dress my children up for any meals. They are both boys and go to the princess breakfast to keep mummy happy. They might wear a lei at the poly breakfast but only if they make one the day before.

We've done both, and DD loved both times - don't think it even entered her mind that she was dressed up the time she did except when people told her how cute she was ;) She didn't want to wear it around the parks, so I squished into our backpack (wrinkle city) when she was done. There are the lockers available, but I didn't want to hike back just to put the dress away. This time, we're doing BBB for her before CRT, but I think she just wants her hair and nails done and to wear a crown - she'll have fun no matter what! :Pinkbounc

DD6 does not dress up. For her first trip when she was 3 I had considered it, but we didn't do it. Now I'm glad we didn't. It's hardly an original idea since so many people do it. I just don't think the dresses would be comfortable and I don't want to haul around a change of clothes.

My DD's dresses will not fit in my uber-cool fanny pack, what to do??!! ;)

We are doing both CRT and the Perfectly Princess Tea and we will dress for the tea but not CRT.

Our kids aren't dressing up for any of the character breakfasts. DD reserves that for Halloween. :) Fine by me....one less thing to carry around.

Good luck and have fun. :sunny:

We had breakfast at CRT and norway on our trip last week. I would say it was 50/50 with dress ups versus not dressed up girls. My DD dressed up for both but changed after CRT becuase it was so hot that day and she didn't want to wear it anymore. We just dressed DS 2 really cute in Mickey overalls or cute Tshirt or something. Have not seen many boys in any kind of costumes. There would be more around MNSSHP. I let my DD decide if she wanted to dress up or not.

I never even thought to have my DDs dress up...we did CRT for breakfast 6 yrs ago before my youngest was even born and nobody was ever dressed up. Thankfully, after reading here that some girls do, we will be hauling younger DD's Cinderella dress...not even an option. ;)
I will be using a locker to put the dress in when we are done.

When we did CRT 2 years ago my DD dressed up but a lot of them were not dressed up. To still make yours feel "special" get her a shirt with one of the princesses on it, those are soo easy to find.
