are coded as “travel” for credit cards? I know it’s a stretch that people would know, but I figure it’s worth a shot! I’m particularly interested in knowing about ParkSavers and Boardwalk Ticketing. Since UT sells hotel rooms, I’m pretty confident purchases from them qualify as “travel.” Thanks for any info!

Hi there, I'm not sure specifically about ParkSavers and Boardwalk Ticketing, but when I purchased park tickets from UT using my Citi 2% cash-back card, the code was Other Travel - Travel Agency and Tour Operators. When I bought park tickets from Official Ticket Center (using the same credit card) the code was Entertainment- Theatrical Products- Except Motion Pictures. Had I known UT is technically a travel agency, I would've used my Costco credit card, which gives back a little more for purchases coded as travel (3%). I like your question, though. I'm always trying to use the "right" credit card in order to maximize rewards.

I just checked my Chase Visa statement and my purchase from Park Savers shows up as "entertainment", FWIW

If your card is with CapitalOne, I have successfully called and had a ticket purchase from Maple Leaf Tickets "erased." It didn't show up on the site, but I just explained that it was a travel expense. YMMV.

I wouldn’t be confident about that. It depends on the card issuer but also the merchant’s systems; I don’t know how UT handles it, but it could well be that ticket sales are a different beast than hotels. Just because they offer both for sale doesn’t necessarily mean that every purchase from UT will be coded the same way.

My fave local movie theater, Alamo Drafthouse, is a good example. Purchases from them code different depending on what you buy and have a different merchant name on the statement. Movie tickets are from Alamo City Point Retail and code as Entertainment, but food purchases are Alamo City Point Rest. and code Restaurant, so I use a different card when I order at my seat. Disney is the same way. Mobile ordering in the parks always codes Restaurants with Discover. But my VAH ticket was Amusement Parks.

IME, it’s rare for park tickets to code as Travel regardless of who you buy from and which card you have. I’ve never seen it tbh, with Chase, Discover, or Barclays. It’s either Entertainment or Amusement Parks.

I did use my Chase Sapphire and purchased from UT. Based on your "evidence," I'm hoping for the same result. I ended up buying from UT BECAUSE they are technically a travel agent. 3% rewards would be sweet!
