I already posted on the recipe board, but thought someone here might be of help.

The cookie I am trying to find a recipe for is the one that has a licorice (anise) flavouring. I am spelling it GENETIES but google does not like that spelling....it asks did you mean genetics  ;)

I tried looking under Christmas cookies and other key words, but have had no luck. So.....does anyone know the kind of cookie I am talking about? They are usually little and white in a kind of oval shape. The key thing is they have anise flavouring.

look in google. type in anise cookie...there are several recipes.

Ingredients
3 egg whites
3/4 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons butter
3/4 teaspoon anise extract
1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a large cookie sheet.
2 In a large bowl, beat egg whites, confectioner's sugar, and flour until blended and smooth. Beat in melted butter, anise extract, and salt.
3 Drop 1 heaping teaspoon mixture onto cookie sheet. Reapeat to make 3 more cookies, about 3 inches apart. With small spatula, spread cookie to a 3-inch round. (Do not place more than 4 on cookie sheet because, after baking, cookies must be shaped quickly before hardening.).
4 Bake cookies 5 to 7 minutes until edges are golden. With pancake turnerd, quickly remove 1 cookie to wire rack. With hands, gently shape warm cookie to flute edges. Repeat with remaining cookies on cookie sheet. If cookies become too hard to shape, return cookie sheet to oven to soften cookies slightly. Repeat with remaining batter. (Batter will become slightly thicker upon standing.) Store in tightly covered container.

Thank-you!

That is the recipe I remember making a few years back!

I knew the CB would come to the rescue!

I just posted a recipe for Anginetti cookies on your other thread about the cookies.

Oh wait...is this it? I'm having fun.
Gran'ma's Anise Plaetzchen (anise drops)
History
These have a bit of magic -- the dried top of the cookie forms an "icing" during baking. The bottom of the cookie is called a "Fuesschen," a little foot.
Ingredients
1 1/4 c. 4x sugar
3 eggs
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 c. flour
1 - 2 tsp anise seeds
Directions
The night before: Beat sugar and eggs until stiff, about 5 to 10 minutes. The egg-sugar mixture will have doubled in volume. The air in this mixture will provide the leavening.

Sift together cinnamon and flour. Slowly fold flour into eggs by hand.

Gread two cookie sheets, and sprinkle with anise seeds. The more seeds, the stronger the anise flavor. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheets.

Cover with a clean cloth and let stand overnight (or two). This period of sitting out will give the cookies their "feet" and "icing."

The next morning: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake until the tops just begin to get a hint of brown, 10 to 12 minutes.

So is Anise cookies the real name? Where in the world did I get Geneties???

Oh, I did tow threads by accident! The first one disappeared off my screen, and I thought it was gone...so I made a new one! Now I can't cancel the other one:rolleyes:

Well, I saw both threads but, all I thought about were Salerno Jingles!! Anise cookies in holiday shapes. I buy one box every Christmas season (got one the other day) and, around Thanksgiving, I throw what's left of them away! LOL I'm the only one that eats them!!

Well, Happy Baking!! I'll take my Salerno's, thank you. ;)
