Does anyone know of a good hypo-allergenic mascara?

I'm looking for a hypo-allergenic mascara & not sure if I can one "over the counter" or will have to order one online. Can someone recommend a good one?

I believe.......but am not positive that I have the symptoms of eczema around my eyes. I'm trying to figure out what makes it flare up & so far mascara seems to do it.

I have discontinued all the make-up I have used for about 2 weeks now. How scary that I have actually gone out of the house and to see my students/parents when I don't have make-up on .

Anyway, I'm looking for a mascara. I actually have another thread going about eczema to get some tips & info on it.

I think most mascaras are meant to be hypoallergenic/non-comodogenic; however, that doesn't really mean much. I have not traced my irritation to any cosmetic. I usually always use Sephora's Atomic Volume Mascara but last week I bought some Maybelline Great Lash mascara (you know the one in the pink and green tube) because I wanted to try their new baby brush. After a day in it, my eyelid eczema flared up. Now, it could have been anything that set it off and not the mascara at all but it wasn't the usual suspects that day so I stopped using that mascara immediately.

Hmmmmmm............that Maybelline Great Lash is the one I currently have & have tried twice, like I posted on the other thread about, so maybe there is a correlation between the mascara and a flare up.

It may not be the mascara so much as the way you remove the mascara. I vote for Clinique too, but--not while you still have irritated skin on your eyelids. You need to get that fixed first.

I've had good luck with Almay and Clinique. I also like Avon's washable waterproof mascara because it comes off with gentle cleanser (I use Eucerin or Dove), but not if you cry or swim. Your reaction could be to the mascara, the brush, the preservatives in the mascara....anything. It may not be excema but contact dermatitis (essentially an allergy). I've gotten it from earrings before, and from stage makeup.

This! Clinique makes a cream eye makeup remover. It's called Extremely Gentle Eye Makeup remover. It would be good for your dry, irritated eyes. Are you doing anything to treat it at all?

I have been to a dermatologist..........that's another story (I wrote about it on the other thread).

I'm currently using Cetaphil & the dermatologist told me to use vaseline. He had given me some ointment but said not to use it longer than 2 weeks as it will thin the skin. I also just bought some Aquaphor to use during the day.

I am extremely sensitive to all eye makeup....the only mascara I can tolerate is Clinique. I also think their eye makeup remover is wonderful; it's gentle and doesn't sting.

Yes, you want to be very careful with the treatments. I am in the midst of one of the worst flare up I have ever had, over 6 months now and my poor hands are just a wreck. The steroids help calm the excema but make my skin so thin it splits at the smallest bump. My Doc gave me Protopic to try but DH isn't thrilled with the side effects (lymphoma being one of them tho rare).

I use cetaphil and clinique anti redness formula and those seem to keep it in control on my face. You do have to be very careful with makeup remover. Make sure you are not using water proof mascara and then use a super mild remover like the Clinique or Cetaphil.

I'll echo the suggestions for Almay and Clinique.

My mother was extremely sensitive to...well, everything....and those were the only two brands of makeup she would use.

Plus, Clinique offers EIGHT different mascara formulas. I like the Naturally Glossy type.

I actually have to laugh at this, as does my allergist. I once went to her with a HORRIBLE facial rash and she asked which products I used, I said Clinique. Her response, If I had a nickel for every time someone with a facial rash comes in here and says that, I'd be retired! Clinique really isn't the best out there in terms of not causing a reaction, usually is is by trial and error you find the best for YOU out there. I use Alamy mascara, and it works fine. Most others make my eyes burn after putting it on. Is it the best in terms of making my lashes look awesome, no, but it still does the job.......

I would advise against using ANY kind of makeup removers. Too many chemicals in them. I have terribly sensitive skin and would never use them now. Whatever makeup I wear seems to come off beautifully with Dove bar soap.

I actually have always just used facial cleanser and water to remove my make-up and never a remover.

I don't like waterproof mascara because I don't like to use make-up remover.

Based on your experiences, I will echo everyone's comments about Clinique. LOVE their stuff, and 99.9% of the time. Unfortunately for me, I can't wear their mascara for some reason. It makes my eyes itch. Maybelline, however, gives me no trouble.

I would try Clinique. It is hypo-allergenic (thus why I have no idea why it makes my eyes itch), and it just might do the trick.

Ever so often, they do giveaways. Spend around $20-$25 and you get a sample bag that usually includes a make-up bag, mascara, blush, eye shadow, and some type of lipstick/lipgloss, and some type of face lotion or make-up remover. You may be able to try what you need fairly cheaply.

I'm another who doesn't use make-up remover.

I haven't posted on the other thread but I had itchy, swollen eyes from makeup. I use Almay and do just fine. To add to the other conversation, I have done the allergy testing. It came up with four irritants. The bummer is that makeup companies can use these ingredients in such small quantities that they will never be listed in the list on the package. I suspect that two of my irritating products are Bare Minerals and Chapstick. I wish I could figure out the handlotion thing. I'm never sure if my hands are dry from winter or the lotion irritating them. Trial and error....

Have you tried a glycerin based hand lotion. I use one that is amazing by Camille Beckman.

I've tried so many. Very expensive & very cheap.

The only one I have no problem with is Almay.
