Does anyone know if SW Airlines is a safe airline?

Southwest is an extremely safe airline.

dpends what you mean by safe. i dont know of an unsafe airline in the us actually.

It's a great airline. The only complaint is that they do not have prereserved seating. Everything is pretty much first come first served (or seated as the case may be).

SW is a GREAT airline, we fly them from manchester NH to Orlando twice a year, 49.00 each way non stop...you can't beat that

They keep costs down by only flying select routes, from cheaper airports if possible, one type of plane so less training needed for pilots, mechanics, spare parts for only one type of plan. No company retirement when 2 friends went to work for them so most pilots were retired military with a military pension to supplemrnt SW pay. If flight isn't flown- crew doesn't get paid.(again last i heard from friends)
I have flown them but if every airline tried to copy SW there would be far fewer cities served. SW only flies when enough demand between city pairs and can't easily adapt with smaller or larger aircraft or gather people at a hub , sort, and send on to final destination.
Airlines were originally regulated to ensure flight service to most localities.
Don't know what will happen now with most airlines in financial staits and oil going up.

As long as you and your fellow passengers pedal fast enough to turn those jet turbines!

Seriously, we're flying Midwest Airlines this week for about $20 more per person than SWA and I'm glad we are (due to leather seating, every seat is either an aisle or window seat, cookies baked on the flight, reserved seats, etc.) but we've flown SWA multiple times in the past and were always happy with our flights and with our service (and were much much happier than we were with Delta who we will never fly with again).

I fly SWA an average of 20 times each year and haven't crashed yet! :rotfl2:

Every airline has to meet strict safety guidelines...... Southwest being one of them......

I imagine you're flying from Buffalo? (We live in Burlington as well and do it all the time) Have always had great experiences with SW. For a 2 hour flight I could care less if I get a meal or a movie.

My daughters both fly SWA quite a bit ~ my first SW flight was a few weeks ago to/from Orlando. Comparing it to the other airlines I fly, if SW flew the route I needed I would fly them again in a heartbeat! :)

One great thing with them is that there are no "change" fees for cancelling or changing a flight. You get a credit and can then apply that money towards any future flight. Even if you just simply don't show up at the airport for a flight, they will automatically credit you for the fare amount.

Great CS also. My daughter was flying BWI to Nashville yesterday morning ~ the day the snowstorm was expected to hit. I had gotten her a DING fare of $34 each way for the flight. She was afraid she wouldn't be able to get out in the morning, so Friday at noon I called the airline to see if she could fly out Friday evening & just how much the increase in fare would be (checked on the internet and the flight was $143 for the one-way). She was able to book the 7:30pm flight out and there was no extra charge.
That's an airline we'll continue to fly :)
