I dropped my cell phone in the toilet last week (Razr) and it will doesn't work, I think something happened to the charging mechanism, but my real question is - my husband had an old cell phone from AT&T and I unlocked it after much trying last night with a code from the web and then put my sim card in the back and it works and I can use it - do I now have to call Cingular and have it activated which costs $36, or am I just fine.....

Thanks for anyone who can provide help.

No, You have already activated it.I would just call and give them the phone info, like brand and product #.I worked for Cingular and they just requested that we just do that.If you would have had to have them activate it then it would have been the 36.00 activation fee.Do you have insurance on the phone?

I can honestly say that I've switched my SIM card (and my DD's and my DH's) in and out of several different phones, and it never crossed my mind to call Cingular. I've never had a problem. While I'm not opposed to calling them with the information, getting them on the phone takes an act of Congress (with LOTS of hold time), so if your phone works fine, I probably wouldn't worry about calling them. JMHO!

Phones that get wet will often work just fine again after a while, but they have to be dried out thoroughly, and you MUST remove the battery while it dries; otherwise you are likely to corrode the circuits.

Remove the faceplate also, if it is easy to do, and let everything dry thoroughly with warm air (putting it on a pad of paper towels near a heating vent works well; don't use enough heat to melt anything. Thoroughly drying out a phone usually takes about 2 weeks of continuous warm air.) I'm still using a phone that went through the wash two years ago.

If you've had the phone for a while, you should also check for any current Cingular specials for free phones. We've gotten new ones a time or two by committing to another two years of service.
