I'm interested in applying in the fall but, would like to know a little about what qualifications you need and what to expect.
Thanks, Maryann :)

Call and ask your local Disney Store when will be hiring seasonal for the Holidays or if they have any open positions. You can expect low pay, lower than most other retail stores, schedules that sometimes do not make any sense. Send me a PM for more info

aholley1061 you are correct but there are really a lot of positives too!! In fact, I think the good out weighs the bad!!

I have so much fun when I'm at work I don't even think about things like schedules or wages, I'm just thrilled to be a part of the magic!! And with not knowing what the future holds for us, I'm just savoring every minute.

I love working for The Disney Store. I was promoted to the Lead position this past March. It will be 3 years for me in October. Dophincrazy I suggest that you go there in person and fill out a furture interest form. There will be ups and downs just like any other workplace. I can't get to Disney World every day so The Disney Store will have to do :teeth: Good Luck to you!!!!

I worked at TDS for 2.5 years. I had a lot of fun, but I must admit that wages, management and scheduling were big downers. I loved being a part of the magic and stocking plush mountain and being in sales. Unfortunately, they closed the one up here where I go to school, but I might apply again at my original store when I move back home. Discounts are wonderful things!

Just go to your local DS and they will give you a form to fill out.
What to expect??
You will make very little money.
But you will be working with people (CMs) that truly care about Disney.

If I may, since you didn't mention it and they will probably ask this, why would you like to work for your local TDS? Just being nosy, hope you don't mind! Let us know how it goes. :)

I just thought it would be nice to be around Disney magic all the time, I haven't made up my mind 100 % yet though. I just came back from 10 days of Disney and as hot and crowded as it was, I HATED to leave, it's so depressing :( I want to start planning my next trip!! but, it will NOT be in June, July or August:( I had fun to a certain extent, don't get me wrong, it's just that there's more cons than pros going at this time of year, we're trying for November this time.
Maryann :)

if you're working for the The Disney Store. You will not be allowed to ask off anytime during Nov. or Dec. Also huge chunks of October are sometimes blocked off also along with the first few weeks of January.

Of course, by the end of all that Disney Stores's will possibly no longer be a part of Disney.

Do they offer part time positions? Like on weekends?:earsgirl:

Availablity requirements can vary by region, district, and even by individual store. Most require 3-4 different days of availabilty. Some require all day either Sat or Sunday, or both. In some rare cases, they might take a Sat/Sun only person, if they had total availability those days, and/or would work 8 hours those days. It varies SO much, it is impossible to say what the requirements would be; it fits the needs of the store, that much is clear! There are also shipment CMs, that work 6-10am, and 5-10am in the holiday season, in some stores.

I am a 5 year CM, in November, and I still like it too........ You are surrounded by Disney product, and by other cast members and guests who love Disney. Someone is always on their way TO WDW, or is just back!

There is still no news on our future, so for now, we are still CMs, with most of our discounts intact.

Someone recently posted that they heard that CMs can get 50% rack rates at the resorts- anyone know for sure?

When my mom and I were at the Disney Store on Sunday, we were talking about how nice it would be to work there. You'd think we did since we're there so often (hehe)

That's when the CM told us that he gets 50% off the resorts and just got back from PO (or POFQ, forget which one). I didn't ask if it had to be certain months or anything, but that was the discount.

Also, he gets 20% off in the store. The bad part to him was that he spends more at the Disney Store than what he makes...That would probably be my problem.

My girlfriend is a trauma room nurse in Chicago, she took a part time job at DS to 'relax'!! We all LOL at that thought, but she loved being part of the 'magic' and took vacations to WDW every year, but the sad part is they are closing so many stores in this area - including the one she worked at... like the above posts stated.

Why are so many closing?

Is it true that they won't be affiliated with Disney anymore?

I dread the thought of that. You probably won't be able to order online after long as well. Maybe that's why their having so many sales.

Hope not.

I have just interviewed for a management position in a disney store. I don't know, but the disney magic sure is nice. I think itwould make for a happy place to work.

I am pretty sure that cm's get good room discounts but I don't know what time of year or what resorts. Do any CM's have examples they can share with us of trips they've taken with disocunted rooms?

Thanks.

As a former Disney Store Asst. Store Manager (ASM) I can tell you that as a manager you are entitled to a Silver Pass which entitles you to unlimited park access along with 5 others upon your entry into the park. This is different for regular CMs. Yes, we did get 50% off rack rates as long as there was availability. I've been gone now for 3 years so I'm not sure what has changed. I've heard that CM's can't get into the park with just their ID anymore. I'm told they need a ticket now. Disney used to give us 2 (1 day) park hoppers twice a year. Summer and Christmas. So that was equal to one 4 day hopper per year. Hope this helps .
BTW it used to be a happy and magical place to work. Sorry you missed those days. So many changes in recent years it's lost the magic that drew me to it. I wish you all the best!!
