Heelys are basically just sneakers with wheels that are inserted into the heel of the shoe. I work in a sporting goods store where I sell at least 5 pairs a night. They're extremely popular and expensive (at least in my opinion). As far as them being allowed in the parks I'm not sure. I wouldn't think so since roller blades and skates aren't allowed (correct me if I'm wrong) and they are pretty much more comfortable skates.

oh yeah, I have seen kids with those scootin around the parks down little slopes and such. I have never seen anyone disrepect anything or anyone with them before. But as far as being allowed in the parks goes, I don't think a CM would notice what they were exactly unless they were skating around and even if they knew what they were they probably wouldn't kick you out.

I've seen them (and wished I had a pair) in EPCOT. Don't know if there's an official policy. If you asked you'd probably be quoted the "no skates, etc" rule.

They convert from sneakers to 'skates', right? I'd let them wear them and if it turned out to be a problem just leave them as sneakers.

We have seen kids stopped before and asked not to use them in the parks. Generally they just put up the wheel until they are out of sight of that CM and then start using them again. Too many of the kids don't pay attention to what they are doing when using them and cause problems.

Kid love them, but I believe they are not allowed at the parks.

If they are not allowed in the parks, this rule is not enforced.

During our last trip in early January, I saw at least 15 kids wearing these and skating in the parks.

Last trip we went on, there were quite a few kids with them. It drove us nuts. The children were so disrespectful of people just walking. I am not implying your kid would do this, but depending on the child I might seriously restrict the use in parks with crowds of people.

In July of 2001, we were at DLP and our DD had a pair that had wheels in both ends of her shoes. She got a lot of looks and finger pointing as she would "wheel" around the Disney Village. Nobody "Disney" ever said a word to us about them.

I don't personally like them at theme parks. This is because I was wearing sandals at Knotts Berry Farm last fall and almost had my toes ran over several times by kids standing in line in front of us who were "wheeling" back and forth. I just don't think in that particular setting they're a very good idea. Plus it seems like a bit of a liability for Disney to officially allow them because someone wearing them could fall and get hurt a lot easier than someone wearing regular shoes. NOT trying to start a debate here. Just my experience & 2cents fwiw.
