DH and I are looking to buy a new camera for our trip. Does anybody have the Sony Cybershot DSC-H5? We are looking for something that doesn't have a slow lagging shutter so we can get the shot as it happens. We also looked at the Sony Cybershot DSC-N1?

Any suggestions?

I don't have a sony. I was looking at one, but it was out of stock when I went to buy one. After hemming and hawwwing, I went with the digital Cannon Power Shot A530. Its 5.0 MP 4x optical zoom, it records video, and takes AMAZING pictures! I bought this camera in May, I am STILL completely and thoroughly thrilled with this camera. :cheer2:

Best part of all....it cost about $200 plus memory card.

Several friends of mine have the older model of this camera, and they love theirs as well. A few others have bought it because of the pictures mine takes.

Available at Best Buy or Circuit City.

Best of luck to you

I have the H1 version and love it. 12x zoom is great for getting far away shots, the mac shots are crisp, large viewing screen, etc. It starts up pretty quick too. There is some shutter lag when using the flash so Ive learned to anticipate the shot. Another option is to use the rapid sequence setting. My only complaint is that the flash can be a bit overpowering (Ive seen a diffuser thing you can put over the flash). Some of the newer cameras have a stablizing feature too that looks nice. I dont know much about settings and pretty much use the auto mode. However, Ive played around have learned how to do more. I use this camera for good shots of my kids, and when I need a good zoom. I always carry my little Sony (really thin, small one) for quick shots, and I have an underwater housing for it for scuba diving, pools, and beach. Hope this helps a little!

Shutter lag is just a part of digital photography. You can shorten the lag time by partially pressing the shutter release button to force the camera to pre-focus and preset any setting like ISO, AV, WB, etc.

You might what to post this question on the
DIS Photography Board , I am sure someone there will have some answers for you fairly quickly.

If you want the N1 I have one almost new to sell you JK.

It's great for totally still objects but even on a small tripod anything moving gets a small blur. If it had image stable or anti-shake it would be totally different but with out those it's just hard to take shots of anything moving even just a slight hand moving blurs.

I've tried different settings as well as someone elses camera and it just stinks. I used our friends a few times but no real action shots.
