I have a ADR for dinner at Chef Mickey's. I know breakfast is much better, but we already have Akershus, Ohana, Crystal Palace, and Kona in our plans for breakfast. I don't want I huge breakfast each day. I know we will be visiting the Contemporary during our stay to check it out and I know when my daughter sees it she will want to eat there.
I keep hearing how awful it is for dinner. Does anyone have anything nice to say?

The character interaction was good and we had a super waiter! How's that?

Uh...uhm...the charaters were fun and Chef Brian at the Contemporary made a beautiful cake for my dd's 9th birthday. That's about it though. :rolleyes1

k so call me crazy- but we liked it. we've never done disney with the kids or free dining, so we went to the world in october for both firsts. we hit mainly the chracter meals for the kids of course. i never had an issue with any of it- okay with one exception we were seated at the oposite side of the restaurant and i needed to go to the bathroom! plus its downstairs. other than that theres was nothing wrong. i keep posing this question and maybe its what younever had you wont miss. we had a great server who refilled our cups numerous times without asking- at home i'd have to ask a waiter/tress. he was great at clearing, chracters were great with the kids. there was lots to choose from from the buffet. hubby and i were celebrating our anniversary so we were made part of the restuarants celebration and had to stand up and we received halloween cupcakes- which the kids ate on us....lol. there was lots to choose from for the desserts too.

perhaps its like i said being a dining virgin- we had only eaten at a restuarant down there twice in 3 visits - we didnt know what we were missing. :confused3 the kids loved it, im a picky eater and found lots to choose from so i was a happy camper! its booked for this trip for little dudes 3rd bday while were there at his request.

We went and had no problem with it. But then again we don't go to Disney for the food! It's a buffet so you they are sure to have something you will like:thumbsup2

I have heard good things. We have done the breakfast and have ADR's in May for the dinner. The breakfast was great but food wise it was the standard Disney breakfast buffet, they're all sort of the same. I figure we'll try it, we'll still have all the characters and you can get bad service any time of the day so I'll take my chances. :goodvibes

It was nice to see all the *big* characters without waiting in line. ;)
Foodwise: The salad bar had a lot of fresh options, I loved the mashed potatoes, and the key lime tarts were yummy.

We love Chef Mickey's for dinner! We've done it three times and are going again in two weeks. We have also done breakfast and enjoyed that. I loved the mashed potatoes at Chef Mickey''s. There's lots for the kids. The dessert bar is huge and SO yummy.
Plus the kids absolutely loved the napkin waving, parades, etc. It's so fun!
We have been perfectly happy each time we've gone,
Hope you enjoy!

We love CM for dinner! My DH chooses it for his special meal every time. There's plenty of selection there- including carved meats and lots of desserts. Some don't like it I hear, but CM remains one of the staples for many there - that's why it's always busy! It's a must-do for us!

e do breakfast every trip. Here are some quotes from the sites review page:

We celebrated my son's 10th b'day here and it was wonderful. The time that everyone gets with the characters is second to none. We enjoyed the food, although we aren't fussy eaters and it was more about the birthday. I love all of my pictures from this dinner and my usually shy son, seemed ok with the interaction and attention.

Between the catchy "Celebrate" tune to the napkin waving, it's every kid's favorite place to eat. The buffet section dedicated to kids has all the favorites; mac n cheese, chicken nuggets, and pizza! For those under the age of 13, what's not to like?

We always make it a point to include Chef Mickey's into each of our trips. The kids love the character interaction. Most of the main characters are there (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald).

Good variety of food. Dessert selection is good as well.

The service was excellent for dinner. My DS only wanted to eat bacon, and the Chef prepared some just for him. Riding the monorail into the hotel was a neat experience for the kids. I would rate this as one of the top 3 for character interaction. I avoid Cindy's though and was not overly impressed with Akershus. I'd rather find the princesses around the parks. They aren't too hard to find. </b>

People's opinions' vary. There was a thread a few months ago about the worst restaurants in Disney. Some enterprising DISer went through the thread and noted that pretty much every restaurant made the list from someone's point of view.

We have been to CMs for dinner twice, most recently Christmas Eve and it was fine both times. The character interaction is wonderful.

Food was OK. My kids loved the characters roaming around the tables. Will go back again the future.

We liked it. We do chef mickey dinner as our last dinner each trip - a tradition now. The food is pretty decent and the desserts are quite yummy. My boys like the make your own sundae with all the toppings. The Fab5 characters are wonderful and usually make it around to the tables twice. We've got no complaints!!

We liked dinner much more than breakfast at Chef Mickeys. We felt the interaction with the characters were not as rushed and the food was a bit better. OK...Not great, but we had worse!

The best part of dinner at Chef Mickey's for us was that in 1 hour we saw the Fab 5 - it would have taken us much longer in the parks to see them and get autographs. The food was okay. I would have been much more disappointed in the food if I'd paid out of pocket (we had free dining). It's an extremely kid-friendly buffet and my boys loved all the Mickey shaped food (mac and cheese, ravioli, desserts).

i laughed when i saw your question because i JUST got finished with my thread stating how disappointed i was in their ice cream.. or ice milk!

The ice cream was terrible, couldnt really call it ice cream. THat is what i was looking most forward to. Terrible!

I ate there last March and it was good. Hope it changes for you. DO NOT pay out of pocket, the bill was around 80$ for two adults, then we had to leave a tip on top of that. There isnt much food choice, the regular food is ok, and dessert was a let down. There were loud uncontrolled kids near our table, one of which climbed in between the window and my husband, a mear 6 inches of space, and also managed to get ketchup on his opposite sleeve. We had to ask to be moved and the manager's reply was that there are kids near every table. (YES, but there ARE well or atleast somewhat behaved kids i'm sure, not running all around their table and climbing on other guests).

I personally love chef mickeys. The parm mashed potatos are amazing! Enjoy!!

We love Chef Mickey's. We have had great service and character interaction. There has always been a good selection of food. I have yet to have anything bad tasting there.

go for it! anything is worth trying at least once right?! We enjoyed Chef Mickey's and the characters were great. Not our favorite but definately worth it, even with a 17 month old. He loved the characters! So fun! Enjoy!:thumbsup2

We had a horrible experience at Chef Mickey's and would never go back :( The food choices were very limited, food was dry and awful, room was extremely noisy and even the soft serve ice cream machine was not working so we ended up with ice cream soup
