Does anyone have any regrets?

I have only one regret and I have no one but myself to blame!

We bought into DVC back in 2003 on our very first trip to WDW; as left coasters we cannot count the times we have been to Disneyland, but had never been to "the World." We purchased at SSR not knowing anything about the resale market or the ability to buy "sold out" resorts. Our first purchase was for 500 SSR points in one contract for cash. We then added another 120 SSR points a year later and have done 12 more 50 point add-ons at AKV, BCV, and VWL in the last 2-3 years.

Can you see what I learned?

While I do not ever want to sell any of my contracts, I suspect it would be virtually impossible to sell our initial 500 point SSR contract even if I wanted to. Bells and whistles should have gone off in my head when our guide said, "Are you sure you want to buy 500 points all at once?" Again, totally my fault for not completely researching and understanding the system before jumping in, but overall I love being a DVC owner and would not change that for the world!

Blahnde

OK, here is the reason I'm not in sales. I would have just about forced you to purchase 2 or 3 contracts instead of just 1. Some folks may have even had me reprimanded for trying to force you to pay more closing costs or been very suspicious about what I had up my sleeve.

Sorry, I just had to rant...I'm always getting myself in trouble for being "too" helpful.

Only regrets we have had:

1. Not buying into DVC years earlier, when the kids where younger. DVC 2 BR villas w/kitchens would have taken a lot of stress out of vacations as compared to regular value rooms or off-site motels.

2. Not having enough ready funds to do more add-ons. Would love to have enough points for 2-3 weeks per year. We did drink the Kool-aid though and have added on since joining, only wished for more.

3. We can not help it usually, but planning more than 7 months out is very difficult with college schedules, high school sport schedules, and so forth. Looking forward to the day when we can plan at the 11 month mark. Owning at other resorts would then be appealing to us.

So really, we have no regrets, only wishes for joining earlier.

No regrets; we joind DVC in January of 2006 and we will be going on our 3rd DVC trip this October.

I wish I had known about DVC a few years earlier when prices were lower.

I say if you and your family love Disney and think you'll becoming back here through the years then it makes sense - especially if you enjoy the nicer, deluxe resorts.

Only regret not buying in at OKW in '93 and only adding on at BWV later. I agree with PP that BWV would still have gotten a major share of my money, but the free passes should have tempted me more.

Our only regret is ALSO NOT BUYING IN BACK IN 93. We should have, could have and DIDN'T. UGH But we bought the last day of Jan. in 2007 and we just added on today. NO REGRETS THEN OR NOW.

I have a couple of regrets.

First of all, I really do wish I would have purchased earlier. DH and I visited several years ago when they were selling BWV. We didn't seriously consider it, b/c it seemed so extravagant. In hindsight, it would have been a good move for us to purchase at that time.

Second, I wish we would have purchased more points initially. We bought a 100 point resale contract at VWL with the intention of adding on as we had cash available. The "problem" is that we can never convince ourselves to take the plunge and add on ... 100 points is really too small for us to do much vactioning without paying cash for weekends.

Third, I wish we had never stayed in a 1 bedroom! Our first stay was in a studio and we were perfectly content with the size, but decided to to try a one bedroom the second year b/c we had banked points. MISTAKE! Very difficult to go back to a studio after a 1 bedroom ... but we only have 100 points.

My only regret is that I didn't split my 250 points into 2 contracts of 150 & 100. My mom was alive & healthy when I bought (we traveled together). Shortly after, her breast cancer reoccurred. She died in 2005. We always got a 1 bedroom. Now I go solo or with friends and really only need a studio. If I would have split it, I might sell the 100 point contract or even sell the 150 and buy 100 at Grand Californian, I went out to DL a couple times. It would have given me more options.

No regrets at all! The only regret we have is not doing it sooner. I wanted to purchase in 1996 and our oldest son was just starting college and I remember being at Downtown Disney asking my DH to go on the tour and he said that we were looking at tuition with two more going into college after that and we wanted to make sure that we would be able to get through it. Needless to say, we made it through and bought in 2000. Now all three have graduated college and received WDW trips on our DVC when they graduated. We love it!!:cheer2:

No regrets. Only wish we had done this sooner as well. We came WDW for 6 straight years without buying. Our kids are older now and we can spread out a little more with a 1 bedroom. We now have a young teenage daughter who needs her space from time to time. It helps to have a one bedroom. As our family gets older we have our eyes on taking cruises and other options as well.

Instead of registering for pots and pans when we got married...I would've registered for DVC points!!!!:bride:
