Does anyone have any information on The Grove resort?

I was doing some research on resorts in the Orlando area and came across The Grove. Is this a new resort? It looks amazing and has a new waterpark area opening in 2018. I have never heard it mentioned here on the disboards.

That place has an interesting history. It started as the Grande Palisades, but never finished. The recession hit and construction was halted. According to the Orlando Sentinel article linked below, timeshare owners lost their deposits. The property was foreclosed and new owners finished the project.

The article notes an October 2016 opening, but according to the official website the opening date ended up March 10, 2017.

Although I had known about this place from reading that first article, I never heard about it actually opening. And, I've also never seen the resort appear on online travel agency sites like Orbitz. I used to work in the hospitality industry (including in Orlando), so I like to keep track of what's happening up there. If I didn't know this place opened, I'd guess the majority of Disboard people didn't know it opened, either.

Thanks for your detailed response. I just happened to come across this resort and was curious why I had never seen it mentioned before. Your post explains why one the reviews mentioned that this was an ‘older’ resort that had been refurbished. It looks like an amazing place, although I like it a little less knowing that some investors lost money on their timeshare investments.

Yeah, I don't like hearing things like that, either. If it helps, the current owners/operators didn't have anything to do with that situation.
