Does anyone have an Acura MDX

I pretty much have my heart set on getting a MDX in the next month or two, but I figured I should get the opinion of all my DIS friends. I am planning on getting the Touring model with the Navigation--I decided against the DVD player ($1500 for a DVD player seems like a lot). We were going to get a used one, but the prices are almost the same and we will get a better interest rate on a new one. I plan on driving this vehicle until the wheels fall off (hopefully 10 years or so).

I would love to hear opinions (good or bad).
Thanks!
Christy

FWIW we now have an Acura Integra and a Honda Accord--so we are no stranger to the brand.

Yes! I love it - we've had ours for about a year now and it is my favorite car every. I drove a Isuzu Oasis minivan (same as the Honda Odyssey) for over 120,000 miles before we got the MDX. They are both wonderful vehicles. I tend to drive my cars for a very long time and I don't think you can go wrong with the MDX. We didn't get the navigation system or the DVD & haven't missed either of them.

Hi,

Don't know anything about the MDX, but I just wanted to say DS bought his first car yesterday. A l988 Acura Integra and he is thrilled with it. I just drove it myself a few minutes and it drives nicely.

I am just afraid it will be stolen.

We are new to Acuras cars. Good luck with your new purchase.

The car we are trading in is a 1998 Acura Integra--it has been a dream car-no problems at all. But, with 2 kids in car seats it is not practical at all. I know DH is not looking forward to getting rid of his Integra to drive my Accord (Who ever has the kids will drive the MDX--that is usually me!)

I hope your DS has great luck with his Acura, they are great!

Thank you, sap!

DS research cars for a long time and finally decided on a used Acura. . They are the #l popular used car in U.S. Your DH should get top dollar for his car.

I had a 1998 Integra... until I was rearended at 60mph while I was stopped on the freeway. Now I don't have one anymore...

That car was so good to me, and it protected me in that accident. I walked away with just bruises and sore muscles.

We have had lots of Hondas/Acuras, never had a problem with them, and three of them were totaled in accidents in which they did a great job of protecting the driver. I think they're pretty dang safe. =)

I love the MDX, I don't think you can go wrong with an Acura/Honda.

What color are you thinking of?

I have a 2001 MDX, and I love it! It still runs and looks great. I got the dark green, which I believe only came out that first year. I wish they had the darker red that they have now! The first year colors weren't all that great.

Since I bought it the first year it was out, I did pay MSRP for it - OUCH!! However, given the Acura quality and reputation, I really don't think I overpaid for it. (Let's put it this way, the Ford Explorer with similar options was about the same as my MDX.) I just have your basic model - no touring or navigation package, and it is still loaded with options.

Here is a discussion forum for people with interest in the MDX:

Good luck!!!

I have a 2003 MDX and I LOVE IT!!! We have everything, Touring, Navigation and DVD and the DVD is a must with little kids! MY kids are 6 and 3 and it's their favorite thing to turn on a movie for long rides and keeps them so quiet during a long drive! I actually was going to get the DVD and not the Nav, but we ended up getting the Nav. The Nav is pretty good, but it has steered me wrong a couple of times, and the database doesn't include newer establishments. I think the database is around 2002, and there wasn't a new disk made for the 2004 models from the 2003's. The maps are cool though, and the few times I've needed it, it was helpful, but definately not worth $2200, IMO. The $1500 for the DVD is more of a value! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!!

Funny you should ask - we have an 04 with dvd and navigation, Sage Mist Pearl with dark gray interior. Cool color, kinda gray, with some green in there. Their black leather interior is awesome. I think you can get it in the silver or black cars.

I really love it, but DH is 6'3"... not as much leg room as we'd like. Navigation rocks!!!

The rates are great right now, we got 3.99/60mos through the dealership... the tradeoff being that we were close to msrp starting. Well, actually, we weren't.... we started at $2400 under msrp, including tax and fees.

We added $2700 in dealer options, things that mostly should have been included, in my opinion. It's that Honda pricing thing, I guess. I just looked all our stuff up, we added/upgraded : air deflector for the front of the hood (167) Running Boards (603) Moonroof Visor (76) Body Side Moulding (236) Rear Tailgate Deflector - it looks like a "fin" (411) All Season Floor Mats - these are a NECESSITY, with children! (122) Wood Grain trim around DVD (80) Additional wood around the guages (150) Wood Shift Knob (130) Wood-grain steering wheel (560) Okay they shouldn't have all been included, but the stock models are very plain Jane, especially for the $$~!

We are now at 4400 miles, actually are selling this one to our friend for payoff and getting a Navigator. DH just hates the leg-room issue! Our friend is getting a killer deal, as new ones are $39k on ebay motors + options, this one is $39000 with everything included.

BTW, the Acura MDX is the only 3 row with standard side curtain airbags for all three rows. Storage, if all 3 rows of seats are used, is minimal behind the 3rd row. We rarely use the 3rd row, as I'm not really comfortable with the lack of space behind in, in case of an accident. Overprotective mother, I am!

I researched like crazy before we picked the Acura - our plan was that DH would be getting a Denali XL as a "family" car for us, so this would be "my" car. The Acura won, over the Honda Pilot, even though the pilot is an 8 passenger, because I wanted the extras you could get in the Acura and not the Pilot - sunroof, DVD + Navi, nicer interior. The Acura resale is awesome. For comparision, we built a used 03 with 16k miles, retail was $41k. NOT including the $2700+ dealer options. Trade was $35k.

Maintenance is great, the standard warranty is 48 mos/48k miles, oil changes are every 5k miles. Well, they say 3750 for extreme driving (short distance, extreme temps) or 7500 miles for normal conditions, I decided to split it and get it changed on even miles. starting with 5k! Oh, and if you have 2 little ones, pounce on the DVD! $1500 does seem to be a little high for a DVD player, but we wanted it included, mainly because it was covered by the manufacturer warranty along with the rest of the car. So $1500 including a 4 year parts and labor warranty doesn't seem like such a bad deal. We also bought an extra pair of wireless headphones.

That's all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, pm me!

Aimeedayan, thanks for the info on 98 Acura. DS is moving to Michingan from MN with his car year later this summer. Hopefully, it will serve him well, and I was concerned wiht safety in case of accident. (College town he's moving to).

tinatark, you should know your cars!

My DH has a 1992 Integra. It has over 236,000 miles on it and that bugger is still running strong!

I don't think you can go wrong with an Acura of any kind.

Good Luck,
Hentob

We had planned on buying one in March but I decided I could keep my Honda Oydessy for another year or so, because I wanted to purchase a DVC contract. So I used the money set aside for a large down payment on the MDX to buy DVC.
We will now probably get one next March,
We have always owned Hondas and Acuras. My DH has a Acura RL that he has owned for about 3 years and the car has been great. Before that drove Honda Accords.
We have 3 DDs so we meed three rows.
