My son mentioned liking these, need opinions on them.

Thanks!

There are many flavors of the CREATIVE ZEN.

Creative ZEN vision, does video I imagine(given the name)
Creative Zen Micro, basic hard disk player
Creative Zen V, Tiny keychain sized player
Creative Zen V plus, adds video to the V.

I had the Zen V for jogging, TINY pretty basic nothing ground breaking.

My neighbor has one a little different from this, but the buttons are the same. I think it is very hard to use, personally, but she is 10 and can work it with her eyes closed. So, I think you just have to get used to it, but other than it, it seems perfect and very durable! Hope I helped!

I have the Creative Zen Sleek. I got it because it is made by Creative - the guys who created the Sound Blaster, and it is a "Plays for Sure" device, which means you can use Windows Media Player to synch your music. Mine is a 20 GB hard-drive based MP3 player and it works great.

My wife and daughter each have a Creative Zen Nano. My daughter is 8 and she knows how to rip her CD's into MP3's and copy them to her MP3 player using Windows Media Player. Such a little geek, and, being a professional computer geek, I am a VERY proud poppa. :thumbsup2 :cool1: :woohoo:

We got my daughter the Zen Neeon last year for Christmas, it has frozen up and we cannot find a fix for it. After searching the web, it's a common problem with no real remedy. Wish I had done more research before buying it.

That's actually the reason I don't want to get him another IPod because I bought him one for Christmas last year and it has already frozen and won't hold music and then I won a Nano and it broke within the first month.

Any alternatives?

Was it ZEN he asked for, or Zune?

My son and his buddies are all talking about getting ZUNES: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zune

But after he got his $400 60 Gig iPod stolen, I'm a tad leary about buying him anything else, ever again. :sad2:

We did a report last night on the local news. Gist of the story was that it is "OK" but not ready for prime time.

It was Zen. They sell them at Wal-Mart. Zune looks interesting but it isn't released yet? Or is it?

it is relaesed.

Microsoft plans to release them soon. Sound cool, but could possibly be a dud aka PSP...

I've had my iPod Video for almost a year with no problems (knock on wood), but did get the extended warranty from Best Buy just in case something does go wrong. It was $50 for 3 years I think. I usually don't go for the warranties, but figured it was worth the money this time.

I have a Zen Micro Photo. Mine has been great so far. *knocks on wood*

not released yet? Our story said they were. we could be wrong though!

Zen is the main alternative to the iPod range; Zune seems to have fallen short.

Thanks everyone, does anyone have the Zen that videos? How is it? That's the one he really wants but it's quite expensive.

Zune wasnt released 'til yesterday - and not even in the UK until 2007.

Not sure how you know theyve 'fallen short'. :confused3

From what Ive read - people whom are fed up with their iPods are very pro-Zune.

I have a Creative Nomad- thats the 40gig one. Had it for 2 years this Christmas, and even being a hard drive mp3 player I have not had 1 problem with it.

I have 3 Creative Nano's in the house- each DD has a 1 gig one, and so does DBF- his original one fell from 142 feet from the crane he was hanging from- had to replace that one, but all 4 are fine

I would never personally own an Ipod, I have no interest in buying a product and paying for the "IPOD" name. My Creative has outlasted quite a few ipods that my friends either bought or received at the same time.

There's just been no great rush for it. The release has barely touched news agencies over here and where it has, it hasn't commanded amazing reviews.

Examples: Engadget; CNN.

It just doesn't have the presence that the fabled 'true video' iPod already has.

I'm surprised by all the Ipod problems. We have 3: a 20 gig (2 years old), a mini (18 mths) and a nano (1 year). We have only had very minor problems.

I would not hesitate to buy another.
