I can't find one in any of the cook books that I have. All I want is vanilla frosting for cookies :confused3 TIA!

Funny that you posted this...I was going to do the same thing yesterday.

I had 7 dozen cookies to send to school with my son for his last day of school picnic....I went to Gordon food Service and bought packages of the premade sugar star shaped cookies....he wanted sprinkles on them.

I forgot to post and by the time I got home I had to hit speed mode because I had so many to do...I just did the standby melted oleo, milk, powdered sugar and almond extract....I left it a little runny so I could pipe the frosting around the edge of the star and add sprikles...then it dries fast...

sorry I couldn't help with the recipe.

All I do is add water to confectioners sugar until it's the consistency I want. It dries hard (you can stack them without ruining your designs). You can also make it with milk instead of water, but then I think the cookies should be refrigerated.

I usually apply it with a little paint brush (I have several that I keep for ths purpose)The kids love to "paint" their cookies :)

The best over here is the vanilla Pillsbury cake frosting and we color whatever we want and it is easy - no hassle...If you want a royal icing that dries hard, then you can find a bunch of recipes online and flavor with Vanilla extract.

You cant stack the ones with the Pillsbury frosting (blue tub) , but boy are is it yummy.....my sister and I chow down on the broken shaped ones and scoop out frosting from the container at Christmas...YUM, YUM!!

My sister is the sugar cookie queen in her town and swears by the cake frosting...easier than homemade and tastes better....

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I usually just use powdered sugar, milk, and butter to the consistency I want.
When I was little, my mom used to make it with just powdered sugar and milk. I prefer it with butter.

This is what I use too, with the addition of 1 t. of vanilla extract. Usually, 1 stick of butter, 1 box of powdered sugar, and a couple t. of milk will do it.

Thanks guys! I ended up just making buttercream frosting, it dried pretty hard, I didn't put as much milk in :flower:

1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons milk
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
assorted food coloring
In a small bowl, stir together confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until icing is smooth and glossy. If icing is too thick, add more corn syrup.
Divide into separate bowls, and add food colorings to each to desired intensity. Dip cookies, or paint them with a brush.

This is the icing I use when making Sugar Cookies
Yum!
