You've gotten a lot of good info already. Just to add my two cents --
buy the laptop versus the netbook. I purchased mine in order to use wi-fi in the lunchroom at work. But I quickly got bored with lugging it back and forth to the office.
The screen is much smaller. You cannot pop in a DVD or CD into it. It runs a lot slower -- single processor. Keyboard is smaller. In order to add data or programs, you either have to download from the Internet, use a scan disk card or jump ring (portable hard drive) or purchase/use an external device that reads CDs or DVDs.
I'm going to guess you already have a PC at home (or else you're borrowing the 'net from another source), and if you're just looking for an extra way to access the Internet, then get the Netbook. But if you're looking to do much more than that, get a full-size laptop.
