DH and DS are going to look at used cars today and that model is at the top of their list.

There seems to be alot of them in our area at a good price with good mileage. I'm wondering what the reason is.

Any opinions or experience would be great!! I appreciate it...I really do!!:)

My dad had one (two, actually--he bought one and then decided he wanted the one with the more powerful engine, so he traded the first in for the second) and loved it. I don't know anything about them, really, so I'm of no help. But he really, really loved that car. Just traded it in for a 2010 Mustang the other day, though. I guess my dad's kind of a car "person of ill repute." (edited because the censor didn't like the first word I chose. Bah.)

I had one as a rental two weeks ago in Orlando. I chose it (Alamo) because I've always liked the looks of them and wanted to drive one. I really liked it and will consider an HHR for my next vehicle.

I rented one a couple of times on business trips. Hated it. The windows are small and hard to see out of. A friend of work wanted to buy one and I told her my opinion. She bought it anyway and within 2 years she traded it in for an Impala, too small. Her husband especially hated it.

All I would say is to take it for a good test ride, be sure you like it.

That is exactly what he said when he test drove it. He ended up with a Dodge Caliber-Black 24,000 miles, 07 Still has some warranty left, and nothing for him out of pocket, we chipped in a thousand for a his college graduation gift. I do not have any idea how this vehicle will be but we ended up getting it from a friend at a dealership who has always stuck by the cars we buy.

I love the DIS, thanks guys for the help!!

I also had one for a rental when mine was being repaired. We drove it to TN and were never so glad to be home! I was in pain from the car because it rode so poorly and it was just uncomfortable. My DH called it the submarine because the windows were so small and it was so dark and hard to see out of because of all the blind spots!

We bought one for DD back in the Fall of '09. She absolutely loves it! It's a 2LT with a five speed, leather interior and a Pioneer 8 speaker sound system. It has Bluetooth and a port for her iPod. It gets great mileage and is very practical for college. When the back seat is folded down there's 13 cubic ft. of storage space.

If you are accustomed to a big vehicle, this is not the vehicle for you. If you like a smaller vehicle that gets good mileage and handles well, then you will probably like it. As for the rental car comments - we had one as a loaner when our Chevy Avalanche was being worked on. It was horrible compared to DD's HHR. The 2LT has a better ride and a much nicer interior. Hers also has the larger engine, so it has more get up and go than the standard model.

Good luck!:thumbsup2

Have had one as a rental and hated it too. Would never buy one.
::yes:: I picked one out once from National's Emerald Aisle. I got to the hotel and called National and asked if I could exchange it the next day, I hated it so much. The windows are too small, and the posts between the windows cause FAR too many blind spots. It just wasn't safe. I would have just turned around and changed cars after a few miles, but it was already about 1:30 AM and I'd been awake almost 24 hours.

I laugh every time I see one as a prize on The Price is Right.

DS said he felt like he was driving a coffin.....ewwwww!!

I was in an accident a few months ago and while my car was in the shop, they gave me one of these as my rental. It drove nicely, but everyone called it the hearse. :rotfl2:

I felt like I was driving a mobster car!

We got one as a rental in Orlando and hated it too! It was the only rental car we ever had that we felt compelled to take pictures of ourselves in it because it was so goofy looking. DH looked like he was driving a clown car. The windows were ridiculously small. I felt claustrophobic.

Our last trip in April, DH picked one out of the Emerald Aisle. Until I reminded him of our last experience. Men.

it fits our family of four great have been all over with it drove to sd to tennessee and from sd to calif..

Another one here who got one as a rental car from MCO and HATED it! You can't even see out the window enough to see a traffic signal if you're right at the stop line. For the OP, there's a reason there are lots of recent models with low miles available.....

Parents own one. Everyone hates it. Lots of blind spots, seatbelt locks really easy (driver side), the rearview mirror is so big it blocks a big portion of the windshield. It gat uncomfortable to ride long distance in and if you are of a larger size it is even worse!! Run away from it very fast.

This is exactly what DH said when we test drove one. It was so tight in there. In just the short amount of time we were in it, neither DH or I could get comfortable. Loved the look of the HHR and it seemed roomy, but once you got all 4 of us in, we knew there was NO way we would be able to live with this car.
